When it accelerate in high speed is would sound “Er…” ai ya dunno how to explain.. Just like a motorcycle accerlerating..

Hey dude, dont correct a bus enthusiast... 179 and 242 share buses...
that is why, at times, 242 gets the Leyland Olympian 3-axled DD buses...

AFAIK, no SBST Merc O405 sounds like motorcycle. So far, only 161U has a sound like SMRTB one.

I think what he meant is there is a loud whirring sound coming from the back when the bus accelerates. I noticed it too.

it's the gearbox, not the driver.

ZF jerks a bit cos it is usually downshifting from second to first just before the bus stops. W3E, i can't explain why. maybe MS can.

I actually meant that 340U (along with 341S & 286T), were once 199 buses... Then they all got transfered to 179 when it was introduced along with the super fast drivers. Laughing

Anyway, when 340U accelerated out of BNL today, there something like a bang sound! Shocked

But talking about weird bus sounds.... go listen to 9162H of 179... The engine goes tak tak tak tak tak and the ZF gearbox is very distinctive compared to other LOs...

its 482T that is still with 242 once a 199 bus , 286T is a 197perm.

286T USED to be 199 perm, before they split into 179 & 199...

No la long before Svc 179 had started, SBS 340U had transfer to serve perm in 242. SBS 482T is much later..

yup remember that in the 1990's it used the have the blue back desto when it was on 199 ...

anyway the bus engine sounds quite weird . like someone moaning when it acclerates as chickenlittle2 said , i took it twice yesterday on 242 .

i like the high pitch sound when the ECU kick in as the tachy needle go past the redline border

Last time on 3905X, the driver was already doing 60km/h before the 1st traffic light on Jurong West St 63... So fast that when someone wanted to flag the bus at the last minute, the driver tried to stop but couldn't! Shocked
