I've ever taken the subways & buses in Europe & elsewhere in Asia besides Singapore.

Interesting to note of 20 mins to 1 hour frequencies in those 1st world you mentioned. Some 'consolation' then to those in Malaysia that they're not doing too badly despite still being 3rd world !!

But i must say (from 1st hand accounts from people i know who have cars in Australia) that the private car is relatively cheap to have there compared to in Singapore. In Germany i understand people even pay tips to the taxi driver in addition to the regular fare (of course around 70 % taxis there are the standard M-B unlike many elsewhere) but private cars (even an M-B diesel model) there still cheap compared to here.

Which brings me back to my point in an earlier post that with the more expensive private car prices in Singapore, there ultimately has to be far less excuses for the 'less than perfect' state of public transport here.

true tt cars in aussie is very much cheaper than in singapore.

an avg 1.6 or even a 2 litres car from popular brands like honda or toyota will cost nothing above $30K.

even a brand new merc is abt $60k only.

but is tt the reason y public transport can be less than perfect there?

how abt the school kids? how abt the old who cannot drive?

n then again, wat is perfect?

having a bus run every 5mins so there would be no queues? or not running any buses when there is no queue but instead deploying only when there are ppl waiting for buses.

if tt is the former, then more drivers would need to be hired, resulting in higher cost, which in turn result in an increase in fare prices to keep the company profitable.

n the increased in fare prices will then spark another outrage altogether.

so pray tell me, wat, in ur opinion, is a perfect public transport system.

oh btw, cars are really cheap now if u r not too big on the prestigious-ness of the car.

a picanto or a aveo is going for less than $40k, matrix n getz for less than $50k.

Alot more afforable in my opinion as compared to before.

To digress a little...

High prices of private cars in singapore is due to the lack of space though I dun really agree with the govt implementing ERPs as a mean to curb traffic flow during peak hrs.

Personally i feel they are trying to EARN MONEY from those who dun have a choice but to take routes like CTE to work every morning simply because they are working in town area. I mean, that is what CEO is for isn't it? To up the prices of cars to deter ppl from buying.

N now they are punishing those who have to take the CTE home by having ERP along braddell too?

we cannot compare this to India/ Malaysia etc.. why? cos Singapore is advanced-developing country. its not 3rd world.. so we leave out the prices part.

sv72 at 5 mins..? more likely 5 mins when its at the end of its journey. seeing the Q, well, they are all rush hour crowd, not leisure-crowd like 161, 168, 969 etc.

or at least, operate 72A!

and.. malaysia.. bus 180 may take 1 hour agree, but ppl can take taxi at only a small difference to the bus fare.

then, in JB, we have 3 or even 4 buses duplicating each other. so if frequency is 30mins, 4 services will mean a person waits very quickly for the bus.

oh man! 170 jams we can understand from Causeway.. Smile

sometimes, the website says 5 mins,but hardly its 5 mins. The passenger and traffic conditions are more or less the same daily. once i waited for 72 for 15mins under normal road conditions.......

But like i said, 1 full paked bus is better than 2 half-filled buses isnt it.. this explains! so.. continue to wait for your jam packed buses!

in those first wrold countries, like Perth, which i been to, the bus night frequency can drop to 1 hour/trip etc..

but still, in Singapore, we have high density population, and high amount of human at all times..

This is more a question of demand for particular bus services. There are times when I was the only passenger on board the bus.

Still, whenever there is a rationalisation exercise, there are few withdrawals of bus routes. The operating hours are restricted to peak periods in most cases.

As I look at the topic heading

No we are not having a world class transport system

There are bus svs that are PAC yet aircon bus rate is less than even 20%

There are still NAC svs, is that giving a comfy bus ride? Futhermore the buses are packed unlike some FAC svs that might not even be profitable

2 - 3 empty Buses brunching yet nothing is done, clogging our congested roads

For cabs: If you take a cab in Sydney for that distance, it would be much more than that cos their metre jump almost every 6 seconds.

For bus, certain less demand routes end earlier(Like our CSS60 Cool .

PAC = Partial Aircon = Even one bus is Air Con oso call PAC...
wad is wrong wif NAC service, getting too pampered or wad, u wan FAC fleet, can, pay more lor, den ask SBST to change the fleet immediately...u haf to understand things change gradually...
i haf YET to c EMPTY or ALMOST EMPTY buses bunching, BUT i haf seen FULL LOAD buses bunching, i haf no problem wif this unless the frequency drops to below 18mins...as long as i no nid to wait for more den 18mins for a normal, regular service in Singapore, i am happy with the service, no matter Ac or NAc...bcoz u haf to noe that road condition are unforseenable...even u try your best, such things still occurs...now they r trying to improve it by having a communication system wif the office so tat they can better control the buses either they are ahead or behind of sechdule...

yes, we r not world class, but we r working towards it...things change slowly...if change too fast, things may get worst...

If someone were to say that I am just complaining too much, then you are the one that is making SBS svs not improving.

I wun be surprised Sv 151 service status would be taken into politics.

If SBS whole day insist that 90% of their fleet is aircon, then 90% of buses per sv should be FAC.. Meaning all svs would be PAC

What a lame joke to say that 90% of the buses in SBS is FAC when svs like 252 have 0% aircon fleet
