Apex-LW'21 SG Yes. ex- SH8531Y, re-registered as SBS6073B, 1971 Soon Chow, re-bodied as a 26-seater, should be around CBD area. (Photo taken on Dec 1980)
Apex-LW'21 SG The buses can be seen at Jakarta if you see the pictures above. One of it is Leyland Atlantean with Duple Metsec in Jakarta, bought first-hand, but not shipped from Singapore.
SGEMP SG But are they very hot very slow and very noisy? Also why SBS liked the Leyland Atlanteans so much?
Apex-LW'21 SG The Leyland Atlanteans plays a significant role in SBS fleet, as Leyland produced the Atlanteans DDs until 1984. If you mean about the 3 reasons that you have stated, the engine was noisy, the back of the bus (the lower deck) was hot and the speed was very slow due to age (friction do occurs)
muziq bus SG The back of the LAs was very hot. I recalled sitting back there as a child. I dread sitting there, fell like wanna scream my head off, worst was when its crowded and on a scorching sunny day....like oven
Apex-LW'21 SG Me too! In 1992-1994, I always took Svc 5 from Bt Panjang to Queenstown, especially the LAs with Alexander L & Duple Metsec body, very hot & stuffy behind, they should install fans instead. It is still around in China when SBS retires the LAs.
