Sooner or later, i think it will be withdrawn as Service 16 duplicates quite an amount of its route. So is Service 196.

If they withdraw what will happen to all those old poor people staying in the Bukit Merah area? They need a low-cost bus service to bring them round the island or else they need to take SBST or SMRT which is more expensive now after the price-hike and CSS is not being affected. Quite a few office workers from Shenton Way take the bus to their homes in East Coast, Marine Parade and Bedok as it is the cheapest of all compared to Sv10,14 and 196 by a few cents and if they CSS everyday after a period of time they can save up to a few dollars which could use to buy food or etc. I really hope they won’t withdraw. If really let have a petition to sign of not having them to withdraw or fold down CSS ok?

SSB will has to close operation if it withdraws service 608. Anyway SSB is now under SMRT Buses.

The bus fleet will either be transferred to SMRT Buses, sold or scrapped.

Hopefully, Service 608 operates under Scheme B Services? (maybe SSB can become Scheme B and remain the same fare)

I know you all would miss 608 if it was withdrawn, but seriously, that service has to be withdrawn as the ridership is low, and also a waste of resources.Think of it this way, if 608 gets withdrawn, SMRT Buses will not have to waste resources. The buses could be transferred to add to the SMRT buses’s fleet, and drivers would also be added to the SMRT staff…so many services are duplicating 608…

Except the Maxwell Rd section. Other roads served exclusively by CSS included Armenian St (605) and Balmoral Rd (603). As for 607, it was the last connection between Moulmein Rd and Bencoolen St.

Noticed that all CSS services go to roads that are only served by them like what are stated above. But those places not a lot of people take but Sv 607 still got a lot of people take don't know why they withdraw it during special occasion like the 1st and 15th of lunar month and etc which those aunties and uncle go to the temple in Becoolen Street from Whampoa that area and Chinatown as it is cheap even though as there are Sv 139 and 131 go there from Whampoa but not Chinatown except for 186. So frustrated with them!

Hellooo? Excuse me? RIDERSHIP FOR CSS608 IS NOT LOW! Try to take 608 in the mornings & evenings, you have 2 to stand from East Coast Rd to Suntec, & from Shenton Way to Mountbatten. Please do not comment coz there are a lot of pple who utilise this svc to get to work & tt includes me! I have been taking the svc since i wuz a kid. The ridership is definitely sustainable or else bus fares would not increase! It's NOT A WASTE OF RESOURCES, BYW WHERE did u get tt idea tt ridership is low? u take 608 daily?

I agree with Acx1688 I only saw this type of situation for a few times during peak periods. Sometimes during non-peak periods which I take it the seats were almost fully occupied! The bus freqeuncy is about 6-8mins which is very fast and every bus that comes will sure have people in the bus and not don't have at all one which is rare. They take Sv 608 to work and home as it is cheaper than SBST and SMRT even though they raised their fares with effect from August. Keep CSS alive!

Of course i don't take 608 daily, but i do take quite a lot of times already. from what i see, 608 is only usually full during morning and evening...not so much of the normal hours... Wink

The bus serves the older gen pop from Bukit Merah to Chinatown... then for the school children in the East Area. won't say it's packed to the brim but is sustainable at the frequency it has...

So I say they should not the service as they are still some commuters taking their buses like the school children, office workers and all the ah jeks and ah sohs are not they commuters to take the bus which they still can earn some profit from them and better than not earning from that route anymore by withdrawing it. Sv 608 still got people take one

I like CSS, the buses and its livery.

But I somehow got the feeling that CSS608 may be withdrawn in the near future, looking at the way CSS withdrew its services one by one. Imagine one company running only one service??(though its a subsidiary of SMRT Corp)

If CSS 608 were to be withdrawn someday, I believe at least part of its route may be replaced by SBST or SMRTB. But I'll be very sad should this day come.

I think that they are making a loss and not profit so they increase the fare as it has maintained the low fare for quite a few years. Now it is the time for them to raise after SBST and SMRT did that. But the increase was just only 1 cent increase for ez-link but 10 cents increase for cash!
