My fellow Bus Enthusiasts,
Many of you have come across the book on the History of Trams,
Trolleybuses and Buses in Singapore from the 1880s to the 1960s at
the National Reference Library. Mr Mike Davis, one of the authors
for that book, is publishing a new book in the next few weeks as
the first part of a vehicle history of SBS.
Quoted from a message dated 19 Apr 2005.
"Now I have almost completed SBS Part One - The early single-deck
buses from
1973 and the first double-deckers of 1977.
The format follows the successful Hong Kong Buses series in giving
a type by
type account of the various makes and models operated by SBS from
1973 until
approximately 1983, plus the single deck demonstration buser
operated by SBS
for various lengths of time.
A fleet list is included showing as many buses as can be traced
from those
joining SBS from Associated, Amalgamated and United - the
constituent
companies (which themselves absorbed the old Singapore Traction
Company).
The price of this book is still not finalized but it won't be more
than GBP
£20 (plus shipping). It is approximately 100 pages, A4, with
hundreds of
pictures. About 15-pages will be in colour to show the liveries of
the
day."
In a recent message, he mentioned that the book will be printed
both in the UK and Singapore to reduce freight costs and make the
book more affordable for us. Publication in Singapore will be in
about 6 weeks time.
I will keep an update on the developments of this new book, so
watch this space!
Regards,
Suhirman "The Bus Guide" Mahmod
