In the June 1992 amendment, service 5 covered the following sectors formerly plied by other services:
Service 200 between Holland Rd and Upp Bt Timah Rd/Jln Anak Bt
Service 103 between C'wealth Ave and Margaret Dr

Service 186 actually replaced service 185 (then Choa Chu Kang - Shenton Way) between Shenton Way and Farrer Rd, and not service 5 between Upp Cross St/Havelock Rd and Queensway. Because in June 1992 when service 5 was amended to ply Lower Delta Rd and Jln Bt Merah (formerly plied Alexandra Rd, Ganges Ave and Havelock Rd), service 185 still went to Shenton Way terminal and service 186 (then loop service between Shenton Way terminal and Farrer Rd) did not exists yet.

hmm..cant really remember but i think they added 9143 on 106 together with the DM0405 with the ocasional Alexandra 0405 after LA were wothdrawn. In all i think they put only a bout 1 or 2 ADD extra..9628 only served veri briefly(few months only)

Really? I remember Svc 200 was amended at the end of 1993, the last major rationalisation of that period. The same day, 149 & 390 were also axed and 16 was extended to CGA. The years 1992-1993 were marked by frequent rationalisation of bus services that it is easy to et confused. Svc 186 came about at the beginning of 1993 and was extended to St Mikes later that year. I remember taking Svc 5 from Holland V to Bugis and was reminded of the old 189 route when it took Lower Delta Rd and Jln Bt Merah en route to my destination. SBS probably thought 51 was enough to cover the Upp Cross St-Alexandra Rd sector. In addition, when 103 was shortened, 32 helped to cover part og the Margaret Dr-Tiong Bahru Rd sector.

Ask for Svc 12 to be extended to CLE via former 189 route at the next coffee evening @ CLE Int.

iamgoondu SG

Yes please bring it up at the next coffee evening. Just wondering any staying in Clementi go to Queenstown Library?

joelwinston2005 SG

The only bus that stop in front of Queenstown Library is svc 32 from Buona Vista. The shortest route is to take MRT.

bluezombie10 SG

how bout extending sv 54 to clementi instead of sv 12? Wink juz wondering...

tranquilice SG

I can't remember whether it's 1992 or 1993 that service 200 was shortened. Confused

You forgot service 31. On the same day service 149 was withdrawn, service 31 replaced its route between Old Airport Rd and Toa Payoh.

Was service 186 introduced as a result of the shortening of service 185 to Jln Anak Bukit, or the two have no relationship at all?

tranquilice SG

Why service 12? Confused The route is quite long already with almost 30 fare stages.

Long time didn't heard of Coffee Evenings. Is this event still around?

tranquilice SG

What's the extended route like?

iveco SG

More east-west routes from BNDEP=Higher chance of seeing Scanias in my estate. Mr. Green

Also, I've done my sums. It will be of equal length to Svc 14 in terms of fare stages (43+44). Bigger area than 14, but same distance. After all, BDK has direct bus links with CLE/JUR/BNL, but CLE only has links to BDK. It's last remaining connection with TAM disappeared with Svc 10 shortened to KTR.

iveco SG

Probably Kg Baru Rd, Jln Bt Merah, Lower Delta Rd, Alexandra Rd, Margaret Dr, C'wealth Ave, C'wealth Ave West, CLE Int.

But if 54 were to be extended, it would surely need ADDs.

iamgoondu SG

Extending 54 serves little benefits, as at present Clementi, Commonwealth have great access to Chinatown, Orchard and Bishan. No one would take 54 to Bishan.

SBST12 used to terminate at Buona Vista, and it used to travel Margaret Dr to Queenstown Library. It seems impossible for SBST to extend that route now to Clementi.

I would definitely wish to have as many routes plying along COmmonwealth Ave. However extending 54 and 12 does not seems feasible, my humble view.

How's about amending SBST198 to travel from North Buona Vista, Commonwealth Ave, Alexandra Road (IKEA), Jalan Bukit Merah and Bukit Merah Interchange.

With that, Clementi residents can board the bus at AYE, and alight at Commonwealth Ave to Queenstown Library. ANd Clementi and Holland residents can now have direct bus to IKEA.

How about Extending 54 to Bukit Merah Interchange

tranquilice SG

For such a long distance ride (Clementi to Tampines/Pasir Ris), I'm sure majority of the passengers prefer the MRT.

tranquilice SG

I support your suggestion. Service 198 used to serve Queenstown MRT in the past.

iamgoondu SG

I did put up this request to SBST, but no reply from them. And I had read somewhere here that someone had put up the same request to SBST too. Perhaps someone may be kind enough to put up this request again.

BTW, I had longed for a bus route that ply along (Kent Ridge or Clementi),...,North Buona Vista (Buona Vista MRT), Holland Road, Sixth Ave, Dunern Rd, Bukit Timah Road, Serangoon Road,..., (Suntec or Raffles Place or New Bridge Road)...

I always feel there is a need for a closer MRT linkage between Sixth ave, and those institutions along dunern and bukit timah road (smu).

Any supporters?

I too had put up this request (I had requested for SBST 200 to loop at SMU instead via sixth ave, dunern road, bukit timah road), but was told that commuters must put up with bus transfers at times.

iamgoondu SG

Reply from SBST.

We have brought up your suggestion to our Planners and they have reverted that the suggested route for Service 198 will affect existing passengers using the service along Queensway (between C'Wealth Ave and Alexandra Rd). The Ikea connection is provided by Service 198 along Jln Bt Merah whereby they need to alight at the stop outside the former Bt Merah SAFRA and walk round the corner to get to Ikea.

Currently the Clementi/Buona Vista and Outram Park (New Bridge Rd) and Raffles Place connection is provided by the MRT. The suggested new routing will not provide a faster alternative to the MRT as it has to serve Holland Rd, Sixth Ave, Dunearn Rd/Bt Timah corridor enroute. Movement between the suggested areas could be made by only 1 transfer which is necessary in the absence of the direct bus link.
