I think, EDS is a trademark of SMRT. Consider the time when the
lances first appeared. They had blue DS, but sometime later, all
had EDS. EDS only appears on special buses, I guess, as 997-999,
2888, 1688, tridents have them. As for expenses, I think, in the
long run, EDS is better. Safe from itchy fingures, dun have to
display new DS everytime got route changes.
