SMRT should buy enviroment friendly low floor buses that will improve our bus transport system. That will definately cost more but will only benefits the bus company and the passengers. Passengers comes first before anything else.

The Scania L113CRL is a zero-step entry bus, which means it is not a true low-floor bus which is stepless from entrance to exit.

Another example is the Mercedes Benz O405N which is a zero-step entry bus and Mercedes Benz O405N² which is a true low-floor bus.

And yes, me too would like to know the source which says SMRTB buses are more expensive as compared to SBST's.

Go ask SMRT buy TATA buses lor or better still, ask SMRT remove all the air-conditioning units in their buses.

Anyway, from the list that tamago has given, it is shown that Dennis Lance UMW are one of the cheapest omnibus in Singapore yet people are still complaining. Next time when SMRT buy cheap (and inevitably, lower quality) buses, don't come here to complain, ok?

I don't think comparing absolute prices alone is a fair comparison.

A more fairer method would be based on price per carrying capacity.. $/passenger load.

Anyway the UMW Lances are cheaper cos they are land-imported from Malaysia, compared with Mercedes Benz buses which are air-flown or shipped to Singapore from Germany, or the Volvo buses which come from the bus assembly plant in Sweden.

You can calculate that based on the prices above. Carrying capacities are readily available. It may reveal a different insight.

Absolute prices are still important as it allows you to see the greater picture and compare prices between different manufacturers. Also, carrying capacity is totally dependent on seat configuration/bodywork for the same chassis. And not all of the vehicle's carrying capacity is fully utilised at all times.

Both SMRT & SBST should take a more proactive stance in the provision of Low Floor bus, HK's KMB Golden buses is an excellent example! HK bus captains actually assist the HAndi CApped to board the bus and these buses have seat belts to prevent the wheel chair from flying!

yes. I know Alexander Striders, VO3x's (Alexander R) are assembled by BA/HG. VSO i noe is locally, but i dunno if it's BA/HG as well.

whether the OMV included bodywork is a thing i'm trying to find out, but based on numbers, it seems they are included. one example is the VSO 9810X bodied in Australia. it is actually cheaper than those assembled locally, for some weird reason. so those locally assembled ones must have their bodywork cost included.

after all, the calculation of OMV, as defined by LTA on its website, can also be taken as the cost incurred by the foreign party in exporting the vehicle to that foreign country.
