There is widespread speculation that the Dennis Darts are headed for the scrap heap as they are running wild. What will replace them? More Mk 5s? To keep costs down, get the 18-280s. MAN’s manufacturing base is just across the causeway. Iveco’s distributor is also located there.

Yes you are right. The MB O405s (Box) make up the main fleet for 12m buses. By phasing them out at one go would meant a replacement of 400 - 500 buses. This would mean business and a tough time for TIBS.

Also, the box O405s are only 10 years old this year. It would be hard for TIBS to phase them out early, especially when the performances are rather good IMO.

DAF buses are actually quiet if in top condition. You can try sitting infront, it's quiet.

Oh...I will be waiting for that. After buying many buses in 1995, in 7 years time, they will have to phase out the first batch of 0405 & some DAFs...they might get bankrupt if they don't plan carefully.

IMO, bus companies should not buy too many buses at one stage, like the Tibs MB0405 & DAF in 1995. When the time comes for these buses to retire, imagine how many new buses they will have to buy? They'll be goint through hell...

During the early 90s, both TIBS and SBST needed alot of buses for the growing fleet for the growing demands for new routes or to improve on their services. For SBST, the new buses also meant covering those which were to be phased out,for example the Volvo B57s or MB OF1413s.

If you track back to the days between early to late 90s, both companies bought buses in bulk.

If that's the case, then what will happen if SBS's O405s are phased out?

The MBs were introduced over a few years, if I'm not wrong, between 1990 and 1992. I believe SBST will phase them out batch by batch, with the CAC Mercs the last to be phased off.

With more upcoming train lines, this will spell amendments and withdrawals of services, hence, SBST may not need 700 replacements buses. The number could be lower.

It will be quite a mess, but it will be gradual as they can't just bring in a huge number of buses at one shot. Expect to see displacement reaction, ie new buses will be introduced at one depot, the not-so-new-ones will be transferred to those depots with O405s, most likely.

Wait long long. With SBST dependency on Volvo it looks like they'll have Volvos for the rest of their operations.

Maybe Tibs will buy the Citaro, not SBS. SBS depends more on Volvo for their buses...they have some sort of partnership

Tibs have high dependency on Mercs. They could bring them in after they have disposed of their SB220s and CRLs.

Maybe not. TIBS tend to buy buses that suit their needs. It's just that the O405Gs happen to fill this requirement.

It is easy to guess the answer out.
How can a bus with a full loading of 24tonnes can fit with ONLY 2 axles?
If that's happened, the axles must be VERY STRONG enough to support. Very Happy
