My proposals to rationalize bus services in the area after opening of CCL, with the mindset that if i'm in charge of this at LTA and my job and "rice bowl" is at stake!

Sv. 28 back to the good old days isn't it? Maybe having more services terminating at Eunos would be better since the place is very underutilized. Alternative could be Tampines - Bishan via the PIE,CTE, exiting at AMK Ave 1, such that the link to Paya Lebar is still preserved somewhat.

Sv. 62 could loop at Potong Pasir even, or terminate at TPY, after all, it's not a very long detour.

Wouldn't Sv. 10 duplicate Sv. 65 in a sense they both go to the same place? Sv. 51 from HG Central to HarbourFront, meaning that it would turn left into Telok Blangah Rd from Alexandra instead of turning right now, correct?

SBST have said that if they cut Sv. 80, there will be a large public outroar. Possible route could be HarbourFront - Eunos, as it is the only service Geylang East residents have to go down to town.

I agree that Sv. 93 will be cut totally, it is quite pointless for it to exactly duplicate the CCL.

Possibly true for Svc 80, then it will make a detour via Geylang East Central, then turn east to Eunos via Sims Ave East, providing a link to EWL and CCL. But i expected LTA to ask them to walk to Paya Lebar or Aljunied stations, or if u can't walk take Svc 155. Or cut Svc 80 to New Bridge Rd Ter? And I do believe Eunos Int is under-utilized. ^5=)

The decision on Svc 93 was done considering its relatively low load compared to other services serving the area. It ain't completely duplicating CCL i'll think, so i didn't think about duplication too much when i decided that Svc 93 will be withdrawn. LTA had actually used the new ez-link system to collect data (boarding AND now alighting points data can be collected) to simulate what will happen if a specified group of service(s) were removed and number of passengers affected and stuff so i think the computer will probably throw Svc 93 out. haha..

Yup. I'm not sure if SBS Transit is too serious about providing long-distance express services unlike TIBS (they jus introduced 966). I expect LTA will ask passengers to take EWL then CCL to get from Tampines to Upp Paya Lebar Rd and Bishan.

As for Svc 62 and 70 I'm not too sure, didn't dare to think too far. but it's a gd idea and a possibility. Heh..

For Svc 186, also, I didn't think that far.

As for Svc 852, already it was a candidate for withdrawl when Woodlands Extension opened, I'm sure SMRT/TIBS will revisit the idea again and withdraw it. After all, it's load is not that fantastic (except school term peak) and could easily be diverted to SBST 74 or CCL-NSL.

As for Svc 855, at first I believe it could be withdrawn, but eventually I came to same conclusion as you. And after all, with Svc 93 and 852 removed, it is the only service left to serve Farrer-Bt Merah-HarbourFront link and YCK-Farrer link. As for PSA Building area currently served by Svc 93, well, take the CCL.

I was thinking with the relocation of St Andrew's Junior College, will the vacant area (together with the forest area further uphill near Depot Rd) be made to become another technological (and marine) hub since it will have enough land to reach critical mass and the government planning to have a station there jus made it seem like a feasible possibility the area could be redeveloped. Two-north, anyone? haha..

Not exactly duplicating Svc 65, Svc 10 does have its niche area (Tampines-Siglap-Shenton Way) and also terminal-to-terminal duplication is not uncommon, like Tampines-Bedok.

A yes for Svc 51. Its load between Alexandra Rd and Jurong East is not fantastic, and can be easily be transferred to Svc 143.

If 28 is to be amended and Svc 93 were to be withdrawn, Bartley road will have no bus services going towards Braddell Rd!

28 may be kept or amended and Svc 93 may be kept as it acts as the backbone of CCL.

My speculation: Between 8-13 services will be affected - be it amendment or withdrawal. It will be comparable to NEL Rationalisation. It could be more because CCL is a long train route. It could be less as not many services duplicate CCL for more than 3/4 Stations (except 93)

The actual load between Braddell Rd, Bartley Rd and Paya Lebar is not high. Most of the load comes from Maris Stella High School and soon-defunct Outram Institute only, which will be replaced by Bartley Station. And Braddell Rd is not very developed to sustain a high load, and services currently plying the area merely do so as it is the shortest route to get from Braddell Rd to Paya Lebar Rd. If you are the unlucky few who wants to get from Braddell Rd to Bartley Rd and Paya Lebar, then take SBST 153 to Serangoon Station and change to CCL.

As for SBST 93 forming the backbone of CCL, it is unlikely it will be kept as so or else it will result in duplication and an 'empty' backbone. Like what they do now when the MRT breaks down, TIBS buses will ply the full route for free, so you don't need a sort of "backup" system. Unless SBST is interested in letting Svc 93 compete with SMRT/TIBS' CCL, then they might wan to extend to Holland Village, and have more air-con buses in its fleet.

You are true in saying it does not duplicate too many current services. Who would actually go to Bukit Brown, as far as we can see now in our near future? And I expect it to stop near centres of activity like Queensway and Bt Merah but it chose to go to areas like Pasir Panjang and West Coast so it's kind of stupid. Unless the government has plans for the area that are unannounced or unheard of, else I think Stage 5 is kind of lame.

LTA had earlier mentioned about a new air-condition interchange near BV interchange, during their announcement of a new HQ at BV MRT.

Do you think it is still necessary to have a BV interchange to replace BV and GM terminal?

Earlier discussion seems to have wipe off most of current services in BV.

Currently SBST terminate the following services at BV: 32, 145, 91, 191, 74, 95, and for GM: 100, 111.

With CCL, it seems like only 32, 145, 100 and 111 would remain. Is is economically feasible to have an air-condition interchange for these services???

If the proposal for the new BV interchange stay, more services could be of have to be terminated at BV, example 200, 92, 195, some services from Clementi could be pulled over too. Any views?

I doubt Sv 196 is a good candidate, it has been amended to terminate from Boon Lay to Buona Vista, and later extended to Clementi. Dover residents protested earlier when it was first terminated at Buona Vista, cos Sv 196 provided the only connection to from Dover to Commonwealth Ave, Queensway and Jalan Bukit Merah.

Just like when NEL open, many services amended to terminate at Serangoon. Similarly when CCL open, many services could be cut back to terminate at BV.

Some of my guesses could be 14, 51, 154, 855, 961, 93, 147...

Service 143 does not ply Alexandra Rd. And service 51 is an important and only link for Alexandra Rd/Queensway passengers to Pasir Panjang, West Coast and Pandan Gardens.

Did LTA identify exactly what is stage 4 and stage 5? I have not seen such information in their website, other than the fact that CCL would be completed in 5 stages.

u’re right.. but i suppose if LTA has its way those passengers getting from Queensway to Pasir Panjang have to take either EWL-CCL or take Svc 51 to Telok Blangah Rd (ITE Pasir Panjang), then cross over and change to Svc 143..

I thought it has already been decided that SMRT will operate Circle Line. Anyway, it's the government's vision for Singapore to be connected primarily by rail and complemented by buses, so I guess buses will just serve as some sort of feeder services in the future. And not to forget the plans for a Bukit Timah Line in the future too.
