foxtrot1985 SG That time was non-peak at about 12 plus in the afternoon... Again, I think it really depends on how fast the driver wants to travel on the expressway too...
foxtrot1985 SG I read somewhere in the forums that 23 was one of the services affected after the introduction of the MRT...
th1988 SG Actually, service 8 demand does not justify for ADDs. Well, I was at the Opp POSBank BS at 1750-1800, 3623 (90) first arrived with a fully loaded trip, then 9526 ( came with 80 passengers (Just nice of a ASD loading), then a 0405 ( arrived with 80% loading with 3578 (90) arrived with 80% loading and lastly 0405 ( with 40% loading. So service 8 is not a very high demand service after all, so why SBS insist that it is a high demand service as there are empty trips regularly too. SBS seems not to be bothered of 90 as it has a fully NAC fleet on wkdays. PAC Sv has to be PAC DAILY not just Sat and Sun. 90 is based at HQ depot some more... Service 154 now has a almost fully AC fleet, must be thanks with the NEL rationalisation which freed up many 0405 to 154.
service_238 SG Very True.. Ever since the Leylands disappeared from 154 and 157, there has been more single deckers in their fleet. If possible I'll try to check out Service 8's demand during peak hours next month.
foxtrot1985 SG Just to give you a brief idea of the demand for 8... I took 8 from Tampines Ave 1 to Macpherson Kopitiam yesterday at around 12 plus... It was a single-deck bus and judging from the boarding and alighting patterns, it seems that most of the demand stems from people travelling from Tampines/Bedok Reservoir to Eunos area... The single-deckered bus's seats were filled just nice even though it was off-peak up to before Macpherson Road where the bus started to get emptier... Also, I took it once from SAFRA Tampines towards Tampines Ave 1 (the neighbourhood centre beside Tampines East CC) during peak hours and it was again a single-deckered bus and it was packed to the brim then...
Superbus SG I've noticed the same thing too. And to add on to what foxtrot1985 has mentioned, not all sectors of Service 8's routes has the demand. Service 8, like any other bus services, though with a few exceptions, has high demands on certain sectors of its route and low demands on other sectors. But come to think again, there are certain odd hours during the day when Service 8 really does need Superbuses, apart from the peak hours. Cheers and warm regards
th1988 SG Actually if you take 8 at PM peak, the jouney time is longer than 23 as of the traffic jam at Paya Lebar. While 23 has smooth traffic along PIE thanks to the widen roads. Service 8 does have brunched up buses very regularly, and SBS has noticed it to ensure service reliability. Oh yes, I saw an LO 3x along Macpherson Road (East bound) at Noon today and loading is only less than 10%, it has an orange toshiba Ad, I think 8 does not even need a ADD at all, but maybe BNDEP has too many ADD to give away!
foxtrot1985 SG During off-peak the diff is not that great... I think at most 5 minutes slower in reaching the Macritchie Kopitiam bus-stop (for 23 means alight opp Siemens Centre Jln Kolam Ayer bus-stop and walk there). I took it thrice at around noon time... 1st 2 times I took 8 from Tampines Ave 1 to Temasek Poly to change to 23. 1st time by the time I walk there and the 8 had already passed that stop, 3rd time I decided to take 8 all the way to the Macpherson stop and saw 2 guys who alighted from 8 and taken 23 at Temasek Poly already there. However, they were waiting for 154 just like me, so there was still no significant difference in the end, except I just saved myself a long walk...
th1988 SG From what I know through replies from SBS, it is said that they would replace NAC buses within this 2 years as they have plans to use the buses before 17 years. This means another 149 NSDs would be off the road and another 98 VO 2x if they are not going to be converted within this 2 years.
Airbus330Captain SG That make senses , the Scania OAcs replace the nac scanias in Braddel depot and the nac scanias are moved over to bedok north depot.
th1988 SG Airbus: Sorry ah, 90 will not be in the list as clearly they said that there is not enough AC buses or that they are just bias to PLAB routes as 94 also is almost NAC as you are saying abt the CRBs at HQ. SBS is still trying to be funny with me even I have reported the matter to PTC and LTA by flouting the PAC rule during off peak.
off_service SG I would say just be contented with it. Be glad SBST put a/c buses on sv 90 during peak hours. They can take all of them off if they want it to for some reasons. You also can't expect SBST to act on your suggestions alone. If the time is right, believe me, they will take action.
th1988 SG Thanks for that advise, However they are flouting PTC rules with inquire from them and LTA is investigating it as it is not supposed to be practiced at all. I mean look at the timetable 1115 1215 1315 1419 1519 2200 2300 1135 1235 1335 1439 1532 2230 2330 1155 1255 1355 1459 Look at the frequency, they are again flouting another rule of not having ETA plates at bus stops. I don't know why PTC is blur as they thought only 35, 37, 378, 379 are low frequency services.
Airbus330Captain SG Hey dude, you are just a regular passenger, what is your purpose of doing all this ? To get SBST in trouble? I mean, sometimes things cannot be as perfect as what you expect , this is life. Life's a bit** ! So get a hold of yourself and dont bother SBST with bus 90 as they are already having other problems.
Zilchster SG th1988...do u know tis is getting irritating...listening to UR INCESSANT COMPLAINING and RATTLING about Svc 90...it's enuff... Look...u r probably juz a kid or what...or you don't understand how SBSTransit runs or what...I'm sure that SBSTransit know what they r doing (although they made some cock-ups over the NEL)...the fact is...do u know their DECISION-MAKING PROCESS in SBSTransit...if u dun...and u dun understand the rationale for doing so...pls shut up...and hold ur peace thank you. I believe SBSTransit would act when the time is right to ractify the situation...Honestly...they r running such a big ops...it's hard to please everyone. The common sense of any company...or at least a company like SBS is not to LOSE money...but to turn in PROFIT...
off_service SG Very true. Even though the NEL exercises doesn't please many, but it is essential for the survival for the company. Everything they do there is a strong reason behind it.
SBS9818A SG Frequency of 1 hour ah? WHO ARE YOU TRYING TO KID? We've frankly had enough of you and your Sv. 90 nonsense. I hope you know when enough is indeed enough.
delonchew SG darryl, you are supposed to read downwards first before reading to the right. at least that's what i think he was trying to write. so the frequency is 20 mins.
