Serangoon Garden Terminal

You are right, the car park is just next to the current BV Terminal. However I believe LTA was not set up then, when they had decided to move.

Infact, the current BV Terminal allows the buses to depart by Holland Drive (91, 191, 74, 95 depart from Holland Drive, however 32, 145 depart from North Buona Vista), this is not possible if BV Terminal remains at the car park. So I have no objection with the move.

well i guess hte only exception lately was whne my army unit charted a lance 245 to visit the civil service college for soem function and the bus had to park in the car park..not the ter ..

In the 1980 Bus Guide, it states "......, Holland Dr, Nth Buona Vista Rd and C'wealth Ave". So I thought the buses ended by the roadside like Ulu Pandan. It looked like many buses terminate at car parks back then. There's Geylang Fringe Car Park (FCP), Delta Rd FCP, Holland Rd FCP etc. Even Labrador and Prince Edward were at car parks. Are there any more? What about Alexandra Rd (outside Alexandra Hospital)? Where did the buses stop?

SBS9818A SG

Geylang Fringe Car Park is now Geylang Lor 1 Term. Delta Rd FCP is at junction of Lower Delta Rd and Alexandra Rd, and Holland Rd FCP is located at Dempsey Rd, the terminal structure is still present!

judging that Kallang Rd started at the bridge of Rochor River could it be part of current Crawford Lane? or on the land now occupied by SIR? i have no answers yet (there seems to be less street directories than bus guides in NRL..) but jus to set u n myself thinking.. n also thus it might not be somewhere around old Kallang Gas Works if the above is true..

SBS9818A SG

Isn't Crawford Lane terminal at the junction of North Bridge Rd and Crawford St? If I remember correctly buses used to park at the roadside.

thots SG

Yes I remember buses parked along the road at Crawford Terminal. If not wrong, last 2 services were 160 (renumnered 980) and 181 (renumbered 961).

SBS9818A SG

Yes, previously they had at least 3 services, Sv. 150 from TPY, and Sv. 160 and Sv. 181 of course.

thots SG

I remember still got somemore, like 209.

The_Bus_Guide SG

It wasn't Crawford Lane Terminal, it was Crawford Street Terminal.
And Lane Crawford is an entirely different thing. This Sumbawa Rd thingy could not be located in the vicinity of Kallang Gasworks as the buses turn into Nth Bridge Rd before heading into Sumbawa Rd. So, my theory was that this road existed parellel to Crawford St, somewhere in the area where the SIR now stands. Perhaps it disappeared when the flats there were constructed.

On this note, do you guys remember the time when Crawford Bridge and part of Crawford St was being re-constructed for 2-way traffic? Buses were diverted via Nam Lock St and Kampong Bugis (behind Kallang Gasworks) before crossing a makeshift steel bridge to get to North Bridge Rd or Beach Rd.

tranquilice SG

Yes, I remembered! It was like more than ten years ago, when all buses have to skip Crawford St and diverted to use Kampong Bugis. There was also one time when part of Crawford St was being upgraded and lavender-bound buses were diverted to use Jln Sultan.

SBS9818A SG

Hmm, so the temporary bridge extended across the Rochor river from the end of Kampong Bugis? That must have been quite a while ago. And Sv. 160 used to turn into some small lanes after leaving Crawford St terminal, correct?

tranquilice SG

From Crawford St terminal, it via North Bridge Rd, Arab St, Weld Rd [Express], Jln Besar, Bencoolen St, Middle Rd, Selegie Rd, Bt Timah Rd and continue with the present route.

In the other direction, it via Bt Timah Rd, Sungei Rd, Bencoolen St, Bras Basah Rd, Victoria St, Middle Rd, Beach Rd and Crawford St terminal.

SBS9818A SG

Very weird routing. Which means it plied Bencoolen St in BOTH directions!

thots SG

If not mistaken, 160 towards towards Sembawang direction plied along Arab Street, Weld Road, Jln Besar, Bencoolen St, Middle Road, Selegie Road, Bukit Timah Road and the rest remain the same. However in the direction towards Crawford was not the exact opposite route, must check out my old bus guide.

service_238 SG

Yes. It could have called at the 2 diff bus stops along that stretch for both directions. One opp Burlington Sq and one next to Fortune Ctr

The_Bus_Guide SG

That's correct. According to my 1995 TransitLink Guide, sv. 160 called at the bus stop opp Sim Lim Sq heading towards Admiralty. Towards Crawford St, it called at the bus stop outside Fortune Ctr.

off_service SG

Exactly like today's service 980.

SBS9818A SG

So it plied two different bus stops, but barely 200m away, on the same road? Interesting.

tranquilice SG

Yes.
