Latest update : I took 9836 today , the suspension of the bus i not good , a lot of funny noises . I still have one more left !!! 9837 !! I didnt see this...

Bus drivers are normally assigned FIXED routes, however there are drivers based at a certain depot and drive the routes assigned to them on a day-by-day basis. Which means one day this guy who is based in the depot can work Sv. 55 and the next day he goes to Sv. 159, for example.

For your Sv. 88 route there would be sector duplication with Sv. 156, passengers can get off at Buangkok Green and take Sv. 156 to Sengkang. It would not be cost-effective to alienate the Hougang community in that way.

I have seen drivers driving on a route for many years . I dont see them changing routes unless short of drivers .

I see, the change is based on depot, not interchange/terminal.

Sector duplication with service 156 (plus 159) is along Buangkok Green only, after that service 88 will ply route different to the 2 services. I really think that service 88 should not turn into Hougang Ave 4 & 8, as that make the journey loner.

(I believe SBST let service 88 turns into Hougang Ave 4 & 8 when it was first introduced because during that time (March 1999), Buangkok Green link to Sengkang and many roads in Sengkang have not exist yet, so no choice have to turn into Hougang in order to use Punggol Rd which is the only road during that time for entrance/exit into/from Sengkang.)

my guess is that service 88 will be re routed to go to SK MRT stn. it is ridiculous to find service 88 go punggol rd and punggol rd is not even where the interchange/ central is.

service 83 is still a ridiculous service. it shd have been integrated with svc 136 in the first place.

Yes, service 88 should be amended to ply Compassvale Rd to serve Sengkang MRT station and Compass Point.

How do services 83 & 136 integrate? since service 136 ply Rivervale Dr and not Sengkang MRT station area.

Drivers can request to change route, however many of them choose not to as they are happy with their present route. Also the fact that it would be cumbersome to do so puts them off.

Yes, when Sv. 88 was launched in 1999 there was no Buangkok Green yet, all buses had to use Punggol Rd, only when the road was completed and services were extended did SBST begin to use Buangkok Green.

I do agree that Sv. 88 route through Hougang is long winded, it is a pain in the butt.

basically the bus 136 can make a large loop ard the punggol. u see service 136 heads to wards punggol. then it follows today 136 route until the point where it needs to go edgefiled plains, from here on it takes over 83's today route before going to punggol rd.

very big loop.

but i think passengers dun need to go town centre yet.( that is how ZYX136 runs.).

once the MRT starts ZYX bus might inroduced a feeder service to serve edgefiled and punggol field

When service 88 was introduced on 28 Feb 1999, it already served Buangkok Green, the only thing is that the link to Sengkang from Buangkok Green didn't exist during that time, so service 88 had to turn into Hougang.

If that is the case, it will cause inconvenience as Punngol residents still need to go to Sengkang town centre, but service 136 didn't serve it.

Hi forumers,

I'm glad to say that the earlier VSOs deployed were now in great shapes. As for newer buses, (983x, 984x), I would say that 9846T is one of the best.

Hmm, sorta I think. Talking about the 983X and 984X VSOs, they are okie now. I seen the most beautiful action of VSOs yesterday. 2 Service 133 VSOs going on each of the opposite direction (one went towards AMK, one went towards Suntec City). That was a nice feeling that I've ever felt.

Somehow I get the feeling that I am addicted to Volvo buses. I think it is the noise it makes whenever it accelerates - it sounds so smooth and great!

I always had the feeling that the Dennis Tridents had similar acceleration sounds as the Leyland 3-axles...

Yup, I second that. Service 161 might be also getting Dennis Trident as part of the fleet.
