If you are Cantonese, you probably believe that cooking in a claypot gives food extra flavour.

Whether it is claypot rice, stews or soups, the food seems to gain extra oomph from the heat-retaining quality of earthern pots.

Any doubt you have can be dispelled at Xin Cuisine this month. The Cantonese restaurant at the Holiday Inn Atrium Singapore is having a claypot promotion till Sept 2.

On the menu are nine claypot dishes, including stewed venison ($28 ), stewed pating fish with bittergourd ($18 ) and 'mian xian' with seafood ($24).

You can also order a glass of cooling cane and water chestnut drink during the promotion period at $1.20 each.

If you have always been fearful of walking into Ah Yat Abalone Forum Restaurant because of its high prices, well, the place does have some affordable promotions now and then.

For example, its current $99 per person menu, which is available till Aug 31, offers six dishes that include a whole dried South African abalone, double-boiled shark's fin with Yunnan ham and steamed lobster with garlic sauce.

While $99 may still not be peanuts to most people, it is still a lot less than the usual $198 the restaurant normally charges for the set.

And talking about peanuts, the plate of boiled nuts placed on the table as an appetiser is so good you'll want to buy a jar home, if not for the fact that it costs $10.
