Stray kitten

Remember the stray kitten I picked up? It's still at home with me... and I really want to do something to clean it now. Rolling Eyes

Should I bring it to the vet to check for diseases or should I bring it to a pet-grooming centre? Or can I simply bathe the cat myself?

Does anyone know how to differentiate between a male and female cat? Neutral

darling, if you wanna clean it, do it quick with warm water.... and do dry it well.

pls bring it to a vet. a kitten would need to have some immunity injections and take deworming pills.

as to differentiating the gender, depending on the age, the differences could be quite subtle. the vet would be able to tell you for sure.

erm, wouldn't advise it. unless it's the really neutral type that states can be used for both cats & dogs (at least shows pictures of both).

yeah... juz gentle rinses over the kitten's body will do.

don't rinse over its head. use a small wet towel to wipe the eyes (corners only) and ears clean.

don't worry abt a dirty kitten. cats do a great job of keeping themselves clean with their licking. Wink

but I hardly see my kitten licking itself. and its fur is pretty messy and not-nice-looking.. Neutral

as it is an orphan (i presume), it has no mother cat to learn from....but not to worry, it will learn to do it (clean itself) later as its animal instincts will guide it to all those practises (self grooming, using the litter pan).

in the meantime, give it lots of attention with regular gentle strokes, that would assure your kitten that it is being loved and also give it some hints to imitate the action of self grooming...

also, would advise you to surf the web or pick up some books on keeping a kitten, it'll help a lot. Wink

see from the butt lor...male kittens has got abit of balls.....whereas female dun...as male kits grow...the balls become bigger like urs...

i dun mean as big as urs lar...but...u noe...its the growing stage... Wink

bathe the kitten gently...stroke it gentle and have some "baby talk" to it......like last time how u hate to bath and ur mom "convince" u to like to bath? Smile

use dry cloth to dry its fur...and getly use a pet's comb to comb the fur....do all this very gently... Wink
o yah....dun forget to get some furball medicine or smtng lydat for the kitten...too much fur in the cat's tummy is not good for it.... Wink
at least let ti vomit the furballs out...is more healthy to ur cat...i find out from my mom wad brand she use to feed my cat...den i let u noe abt the furball cntrl... Wink

buy some toys for it to play wif...like toyball...or simply get a feather and attach it to a long string....den u use dat to play if it lor... Wink

once in a while use water to boil a small fish(dun add anything to it...) and pamper it lor... Wink

remember when u r having ur meals...dun ever drop meat or fish on the floor...cos human food..after adding flavours...is rather...even cos harm to animals... Wink

if u duwan it to scratch ur furnitures...get a cat scratching stand from the pet shop...and best it u toilet train it...when ever it wanna wee-wee or poo-poo...bring it to the toilet...den after it use the toilet...just wash or flush lor...
u can oso toilet train it using a big tray and put sand...(i dun advise u to use dat method...u can hardly find sand...only at beach...)

i'm not sure if my mom will allow me to keep the kitten when it grows bigger... I think she's probably afraid it'll scratch the furniture and that i'll spend too much time taking care of it.

de-clawing cats are considered cruel right? but if my mom doesn't allow me to keep it, will it be alright if I let it run free [after sterilization]? or should i call up the SPCA... Confused
