It depends on the goal/vision of the church you're going. If your church, for example, focuses more on the mission fields, it will be good to equip the library with more materials on missions.

Generally, the books from the following authors are pretty good:

(1) Max Lucado
(2) Charles Swindoll
(3) Joyce Myer
(4) Phillip Yancey
(5) Rick Warren
(6) Gary Chapman
(7) Nicky Gumbel
etc

Woah, i only endorse two authors in your list. Laughing

I have Rick Warren's purpose driven church. Pretty good book. But i don't agree with it. So he's not in TO BUY list.

Very seldom would one want to borrow a study bible and study it for a period of time then return it.

Study bible is a more personal thing. Unless most people are poor to afford the bible, then they will make do with the existing bible they have.

vince69 SG

not really, sometimes its just a last minute want to reference something kinda situation (maybe while doing Bible Study in Church kinda situation).

btw, Study Bible is just a good to have in my opinion. Smile

Icemoon SG

Books by John Piper!

He is generous enough to make them available online. Laughing

Unless you're telling me the library is open throughout the day, 7 days a week. Laughing

vince69 SG

M©+square SG

haven seen that before.

The church didn't have a rest day?

davidche SG

erm my chucrh is protestantly protestent.

Our library is interested in what the church is interested in.

We specifically need books for basic believers and books for older christians,

No im not OMO dont worry.

M©+square SG

You got say like didn't say.

'Our library is interested in what the church is interested in.'

And you tot we know what your church is interested in? I bet you don't even know what your church teaches.

You don't need books, you need training materials.

davidche SG

Our library is interested in what the church is interested in.

We specifically need books for basic believers and books for older christians,

our library is interested in books for basic believers.

Our church is interested in preaching the gospel for christ.

in all, we are trying to work towards pulling in more basic believers/non-beliervs.

Im sorry i didnt make it clear to you.

Icemoon SG

shucks .. no Systematic Theology liao .. what a pity. Laughing

Then Dr. Neil T. Anderson books should be ok, for youths especially.

Authors like Bill Bright, John Wimber, Gordon Lindsay(favourite) should be good?

But if you're looking for more technical and dry academical books.
Then i think the others like icemoon or Ironside could help.

But basically, the belief and philosophy of your church is most important when you do book selection.

Icemoon SG

dave .. NLC has quite a strong chinese congregation right? don't forget the chinese books. Smile

Icemoon SG

dave .. check the works of Dr John Sung if they are available. He was the Billy Graham and John Wesley of China. Razz
