Chin Eng SG

ooorrr... THAT long weekend.... i thought you meant THIS weekend. Embarassed

iveco SG

It originated as the Winter Solstice before the arrival of Christianity to Europe. Later on, many traditions like the Yule log stayed on.

Same goes for Easter. It was the Spring Equinox in the old days. The chocolate eggs of today had a different meaning back then.

NT2 SG

yeah

breytonhartge SG

it may be the most overused cliche, but the truth behind it is undeniable.

Unless God gives you revelation, you will never fully understand His word.

... my observation... Wink

Chin Eng SG

which gives rise to an undeniable truth: the one that implies that not many Christians actually have revelations from God, seeing that there are so many disagreement between brethrens.... either that or that the revelations are always clouded by personal biasness and emotions.

vince69 SG

isn't it human nature to interpret things based on individual experience, hence giving rise to different people having different view of the same thing?
Smile (actually a lot of people don't even bother find out, they just take others' opinion and form their own by adding on their own experiences) Sad

cheers, God bless. Smile

Chin Eng SG

exactly.....

my point was that the phrase "ask God to reveal it to you." (look higher up in this page) is an overused cliche.... because in reality, does that happen very often, be it the asking or the revealing? Isn't this the very same reason why churches split, and factions are formed, because someone claimed to have some divine revelation? Crying or Very sad

vince69 SG

actually, not many people really ask God to reveal it to them also Sad , even if God does speak, not many would really listen, which reminds me of a joke...

A man was praying and asking God for an answer to his problem, and he goes "Dear God, ...... (keep discribing his problems).... ", midway, a voice from heaven came, "I heard you, here is...." before God can continue, the man interrupted, saying.. "God, wait, I am busy praying" Wink

sounds lame, but a lot of times, we (maybe its just me) actually did this to God.

Smile God Bless...

Icemoon SG

The asking and revealing always happen to charismatic pastors .. Wink

Prince can even dream of seeing Jesus.

The reason why churches split is because we as humans have minds that are too closed, also we are very set in our ways. To be able to grow one must always have a teachable heart/spirit and be humble before the Lord.

It does not mean that just because you had one revelation from God about something, that, that is it. God can and more often times will reveal more to you if you are willing to hear. But we get so comfortable just doing the same old, same old that we often times miss out on what God is saying or trying to say to us.

The thing with revelation is that you can and will hear from God if you are willng and want to. God can speak very accurately into your situation if you want to hear from Him. The key in my opinion is to be silent before the Lord and wait upon Him. So often I find that if I am quiet before the Lord, He will speak to me and often times, it will be confirmed by my Christian friends who receive the same word from the Lord for me.

I think in reality, many people do the asking part, but very few wait upon the Lord long enough for the answer!

Divine revelation is for all of God's children. We just have to ask.

Jeremiah 33:3
3 'Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.'

God Bless

Chin Eng SG

Exactly brey.....

But the issue is NOT whether God reveal or not reveal, nor is it the amount and quality of the revelation....

The issue is: sometimes we use too many cliches in our communication.

Example: we had a meeting among our worship service leadership. One of the points in the agenda specifically attempted to deal with some questionable topics an invited speaker made during worship. One well-meaning member of this committee said: let God use the speaker and speak to us in His way.....

So can we assume this statement to be true? That God is using His servant to minister to the congregregation? Or

Is this a cliched statement because it is indeed true that said speaker had some questionable points that required closer attention?

Note that cliches do not have to be false, they are just overused statements uttered in place of anything truly constructive and helpful.
