I know faith is a very inward and personal thing but is there any way a person can tell if he himself has faith.

There is no way a person can tell if he have faith until when he choose to place his trust/hope onto something or someone.

Of cos, there are people who said 'Have faith in yourself!'
That is another matter altogether.

This is crudely presented, i apologise.

But are you facing any situation at this moment?

Faith ,first and foremost, is not the absence of doubts. Doubt is not the opposite of faith. Its opposite is unbelief.

Mt 14:31 And immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and caught him, and said to him, "O you of little faith, why did you doubt?"

They had faith alright but they had doubts. Doubts can be sinful or just due to ignorance and lack of knowledge. Moral doubt is due to unbelief while intellectual doubt is due to our limited minds that cant seem to grasp and comprehend.

Signs of faith:

1) it manifests in our motives

The Lord Jesus Christ brought salvation and forgiveness of sins on the cross. Having trusted in Him and what He did on the cross, I do good works and obey His commandments not with the motive that I would be saved and forgiven but to show my gratitude and love to Him for saving me.

2) it shows in your perspectives

There are times that we feel alone and scared. Our feelings says: you are alone..panic!!!!!!!!!!! Faith says: stay calm.stay focused..keep your composure.God will never leave you nor forsake you He promised. With His promise on my mind [having faith in it], I get a new perspective: Ah yes..i am not alone though my feelings says other wise. [peace]

3) it shows in your works

Noah built the ark even though the seeming improbability of a world wide flood from happening [at least to the human point of view]. He made the ark, trusting, having faith in what God had said than on his own understandin

Lemme define my question more clearly, what do you define,true faith, saving faith as?

Why not you define in your own words and present it before the others can answer you?

Do you realise that you've been asking questions without people knowing or having the gauge of where you are standing in your spiritual knowledge?
Some kind of mysterious ya?

I have had a friend who regards Faith as Faith.
There is no such thing as 'little faith' or 'full of faith'
He thinks that Faith is a have or don't have substance.

Another friend thinks that Faith can be slowly built up.

I feel that both of them are not wrong.
Back to you. How do you quantify Faith?
Can you measure Faith in Volume or size?
Can we capacity limited when we claim to have faith?

In that case, I feel that faith,like salvation, is a gift from God. Unobtainable by human effort. Anything less than that would be considered intellectual accepetance.

Then i have a tiny nitty question i hope you can ponder.

Have you wondered a nonbeliever - to be stricter, a non Christian who have never heard of Gospel or what Church teachings is like.
Faced with problems and somehow he just prayed(like Hannah in Samuel) to be delivered from those problems.
And all his problems were solved one by one almost immediately after his prayer.

But he's still a non believer

My observation? What created the need for him to trust in his prayer more than he trust himself? My bet is Divine prompting and intervention.

Question: Did he have faith or was it intellectual acceptance which led him to seek help from the spiritual realm.

Men do things in dire situations that they wouldn't normally do. I'd say it would be the situation. Similarly, I believe same thing go for conversion,when a human realizes his absolute inability to enter heaven by his own effort, his dire situation of going to hell, he turns to God. But divine intervention could jolly play a part too.

Yes. But remember the case which i've presented to you?

He doesn't realize in his absolute inability to solve his problems.
He turns to prayer, not even God.
He wasn't converted and still is a 'free thinker'
So is faith present or not?

More importantly, have you gotten your answer on Faith?

Do note that the "ability" to speak/pray in tongues is not an indication that you have faith.

The "capacity" to be 'healed' during healing sessions is also not an indication that you have faith.

The prayer, to me could just be an action, a gesture. So I highly doubt that faith was present. But whos to say it wasnt.
