First post here , to me , the bible is just another novel . If God was really that almighty , why did the people of the world still separate? He gave us freewill , but surely he can appear over national tv since he’s so great , and influence us then . Maybe even solving all problems by his will alone . Yet he leaves it to people who are ‘converts’ to do the job . If I were God , I would have recreated this world , since it’s so crappy . What is God waiting for ? If he exists , where is he? Okay … He’s everywhere , but does he really answer prayers ? I’m sure tons of tsunami victims out there are praying or prayed upon to either receive help or even revive the dead . Can’t God do all that? Perhaps rain manna on the people , revive the dead(not as zombie though) and even personally escort bad leaders to hell . Apparently , he’s just watching . He wants the best for us , but leaves us to solve our problems. So many religions out there , so many different things , and God created them. Why didn’t God keep everything on track? Is he on a holiday since thousands of years ago ? Does God only do Genesis ? He shouldn’t have sent his son , he can just send legions of angels to convert people , perhaps get the angels to counsol everybody. I’m apolegetic for the long post , God would want us to believe in ourselves , it doesn’t really matter to him unless he’s real vain. I’ve tried praying to God , even though I’m an atheist , surely he would show interest in all subjects? Yet I only heard myself , unless I’m God himself. I’m pratically begging God to show mankind the truth , show yourself and people will believe you!

So the beliefs by the Jews and the christians are different, so that means christianity itself is similar to Islam where the original context has been rephrased in such a way that the founders of christianity chose it too ?

So if christians follow BOTH the teachings of the Old and New Testament,just a question, do u eat seafood like prawns,crabs and pork ?

i think what Monaro_HSV was refering was the abstence from seafood other than fish and pork which as described in the book of Levtitus(sorry not too sure abt the spelling) where it said that one should not consume unclean food like pork and seafood other than fish.

So one if were to follow the word of God, does it mean that by eating anything means that you are putting your earthly desires before the Word of God ? nice pt to ponder upon ?

circumcision is actually for hygienic reasons and to differentiate themselves from the other populace.

I can confirm the part about the Jews who do not believe gentiles could be saved , after all what's the point if they are the chosen people. However christ said everyone who accepts god is saved. They say a jew is not a jew unless he comes out from a jewish mother. Why? Because they know at least if a jew gave birth to a baby - doesn't matter whose it is , the baby is still at least a jew. They forbid those who are not borned of jewish mothers to be buried in a jewish cemetary - there was a case of a russian mom who converted to judaism and her son died in a bombing.. By right her son should be a jew but the mother was not recognised as a jew (although she converted) therefore he could not be buried there. That story came from my colleague who happens to be a distant relative of the mother.

A guy I used to date is jewish - his parents were not too happy to see me , an asian girl. Shikse was the term they used for me. I figured it out after watching some tv show. They spoke basically in yiddish in front of me punctuated with shikse....so that didn't work out too well. Not a single smile. Shikse is a degradatory name they call a non jewish girl. So go figure who is more racist - the ordinary caucasian or the jew.

Pork - it was because pigs were swimming in mud and swill in the good old ancient days. Symbolically pigs are dirty to them. Therefore they don't eat pigs. However I think the seventh adventists ( christians) don't eat pork either.
