I know for a fact that my late grandparents and parents were
very grateful to you. Myself & my children, we are all very
grateful to you and I am sure my grandchildren would be too. I
regret that I never got to shake your hand or talk to you and the
closest I ever got to you, was yesterday when you were lying there
in Parliament house.
I asked myself - Would Singapore be as good as what it is today if
not for you? My answer: "Maybe, but probably not".
If you had not escaped death during the Japanese occupation, your
death would be quite insignificant and mourned by only a few.
Today, millions of us are mourning for you as we send you off on
your final journey because you survived and by doing what you did
for Singapore, you have made a great difference to our lives and
that of our future generations.
I thank you, We ALL thank you. You will forever remain in our
hearts.
