Not at all. IMO, people here are too quick to believe him. It is never OK to just enter a country without getting permission to enter. It is called illegal immigration. Singapore regularly sends illegal immigrants to jail and for caning.

It is not as if the customs official took his passport and did not stamp it. The situation is that he did not give his passport to any customs official. He is therefore either very naive, very reckless or very guilty. On all counts, he should be punished as a reminder to him. Perhaps the punishment is a little too harsh but it is their country and they are allowed to make their own laws.

I really hope the malaysian government resist all attempts to get him off man. He did the crime, now he should do the time.

This case,it's the person's fault not to check his passport not being chopped.
Oh well malaysia want makan our money only..After makan,put inside pocket then keep it.Not using to develope big longkangs all like in JB there's flooded.Somemore,singapore media make us scary go JB already.Tends there's shoptliffting etc even murder cases and lastly flood cases.This has to stop man.

There was no one at the counter (according to the Sgrean). It is not the case that the immigration official took and passport and did not stamp it.

What immigration fellow? The guy drive through knowing that something was wrong! Then the fool sort of showed his passport to the toll-collector. The toll-collector is not an immigration official so naturally he would not have known why this joker is showing him the passport.

from the news, we know that if anyone drives past an immigration booth in singapore without stopping, the whole bloody checkpoint is locked down immediately and the one who drove through is detained for questioning... and if it was deliberate, the person is charged in court...

What working attitude. If I am operating a toll booth, sitting on my arrse for 8 hours a day, and some foreigner shoves his passport onto the counter with the toll, I would take the money and return him the change together with his passport, thinking that this is weird ... then go back to the monotonous task of collecting money.

No. It means that on the SG end, if someone gave the toll-collector his passport, he would almost certainly just hand the passport back and wave im on. Because it is not his job to check passports. Unless the person spoke english/chinese/malay/indian(?), the perhaps he could understand the situation.

You dun seem to understand what happened here.

Guy drove to empty immigration counter. No one at counter. He drove on. He knew something wasn't right. So further on he gave the person at the toll-booth his passport. That person gave him his passport back. He drove on w/o checking his passport.

There's a toll payment machine at the counter which payment is done using a cashcard (For local) or Autopass (Malaysian cars) which is self service

The officer handling with the passport also has to make sure that the toll is paid as well as the passports are properly stamped

I gather you are talking about the Singapore system? THe issue at hand is Malaysia's system. Do they operate the same system in Malaysia?

I passed through JB checkpoint a few months ago and did not recall the toll-collector asking for my passport, just for my money.

Or are you making the point that Malaysia should adopt Singapore's system? Surely that is besides the point.
