Well things would really be upside down if a judge told an illegal immigrant that although all the evidence points to him doing the crime, it was not in fact his fault but the country's fault and therefore he should be let free...Oh no no no...he should be compensated and be apologized to.

the moral of the story, always check your passport of the stamp when crossing any immigration. Also don’t be sia lan with the immigration officer, cos they can do something nasty to you as it’s within their power. eg strip search. Lastly most of the malaysia immigration officer will let you pass with some nice gratitude.

here, from what is being said, he went through the immigration counters without stopping.. that makes him an illegal immigrant..

however, there is a responsibility of duty on the part of the immigration fellas in malaysia to not allow a counter to be open where a car can just drive past without anyone knowing...

so, if a terrorist decides to go into malaysia, that's the way to go huh?

and by default, think about it... if a terrorist gets into malaysia (looks easy enough after this incident, right? ) and wants to come into singapore, he can just waltz through malaysian side toward singapore... so singapore side has to be bloody vigilant because the other side doesn't seem to give a flying rat's ass...

also, if you are a criminal on the run, you can escape from malaysia and they probably won't know either..

sad state of affairs...

but all this matters little to the guy in prison right now...

the way i see it, yes that guy was wrong. he shouldn't drive through eventhough there was one at the counter. it's the same as u went into a department store to buy something and see no one at the counter, u won't exit without paying right? logically speaking one should wait until someone comes back.

but having said that i think the punishment is a bit too harsh. co afterall it's also partly the counter's fault as he or she shouldn't leave the counter until someone replaces him or her.

Ya clearly whoever vacated the counter ought to have blocked off the road. Btw, criminals on the run in Singapore get away pretty easy too.

actually if a terrorist or anyone from singapore wants to escape into malaysia, all they have to do is clear the singapore side of the customs. in malaysia, you could just drive straight through without stopping and no one would blink an eye, especially if you're on a malaysian registered vehicle.

Wrong. I know everything doesn't work by the book. However, as the need to use the phrase "by the book" suggest, you and I know that there are rules that are supposed to be followed and that there are consequences for not following them. The fact that things do not always do by the book doesn't mean the law is never going to be enforced.

You do the crime, now do the time. Fair cop as far as I am concerned. Sympathy for him, yes but not to the extent that I think he should be let off or that this is not his fault.
