nightzip SG senior specs? i.e. 1st sgt n above? its way of army recognizing them for their long years of work, i.e. same as teachers getting their 20yrs service awards, senior technicians, etc..... i.e. most prob. they cannot get promoted or do not wish to be promoted to officers etc.... but anyway they can get to senior warrant.
sidestep1984 SG i asked a fren who is a regular.... staff sergeants can be called...staff....encik....sergeant major..... master sergeants can be called encik....sergeant major depending on how they wanna be called
kAdEn SG Encik is often used only if they are holding CSM appointments. They doing staff tours, i think they are generally addressed as Staff or Master. I used to call one of the warrant officers encik. Because he was my CSM and a darn good one
octega SG Maybe different camp bah, in tekong, my company were told to address our CSM, a Staff, via his rank, Staff XXXX or Encik XXXX. .
Ponders SG yes, master sergeants and below till 3sg are Specialists. although sometimes 1sg and up are regarded as senior specs. Some says CPL are specs. I dunno what's right. but if you follow US System, CPL and above are NCO (Non-coms) where the close equivalent are Specialists in singapore. But then again, Sect Comds in US are CPLs. DAmn confusing. haha.
BaByBoY SG A spec will always be spec at most give them a senior spec i cant imagine in my camp the staff and master sgts expect ppl to call them `SIR` it`s so unfitting encik`s fine w me, but `sir`?? even a WO is a warrant and not a commissioned officer
Gordonator SG encik is the malay word for Sir. used commonly to address warrant officers. so by right we cannot address them as encik. i think call them sergeant major is more appropriate.
cornyfish2000 SG Oh, i thought encik means uncle? 'Mister' sounds abit rude rite? Addressing someone double your age and so laojiao...
Gordonator SG is it? thanks for the clarification. i was told encik has the same meaning as Sir. now i know.
sidestep1984 SG uncle is pakcik.....hehe i dont think it sounds rude arh....u consider in the US Navy...they call their Master Chiefs as Mister informally......
