guards/infantry, etc...you name it , they have it for you

LazerLordz SG

Hmm.That is not the case for all technicians.

ditzy SG

I wouldn't bet on that. Laughing My coy 2nd sgt tech needs to take his recovery vehicle out to field so often, even his recovery vehicle needs servicing.

tarutaru SG

i guess how often u go out to field depend on unit…..MO in commando also have to go through airborne course

shade343 SG

really? I dont want all that, I want something like being some kind of medic that sits in the building waiting for casualties to arrive while at the same time do some paperwork or read a book?

gnoik SG

Mmm..that will be a service medic job right?

tarutaru SG

Even service medic ocassionally have to go outfield as well depending on unit

Gordonator SG

sometimes i wonder, if all the doctors in NUH were to wear their military ranks, i wonder what ranks will they be?

i guess definately many will be MAJ and above. Mr. Green

Hmmm... do they actually promote reservist MOs? I dun remember seeing any MO above the rank of CPT...

Anyway I heard from my ex-platoon mate who's a medical student now that one of their profs used to be the chief of medical corps, a BG, and that apparantly the professorship was given to him as a retirement post. Shocked

Perhaps I can answer this... as my A level class had about 70% of chaps going to medical school in NUS. Most of them went thru' the old medical officer OCS training in the late 80s, even those that at first went thru' SISPEC (that time called SAFINCOS). Only the really unfit friends escaped OCS but had to serve the remainder of their NS as non-uniformed officers at CMPB or some other staff medical job. The fit ones were commissioned as CPTs and went out to the units.... one friend was attached to 1 Cdo Bn and actually volunteered for the first Gulf War.

My friends now are mostly detached from their units. Some are serving in non-uniformed medical roles for their reservist stint. Screening medical board cases for reservists is one common duty. Some are just "demobbed"... no more NS for them ! There are enough MOs around in the active units. Only a few are promoted beyond CPT rank. But these chaps are most likely in the specialised medical support reservist batalions.

So how do I become a service medic?

tarutaru SG

depending on your pes status, from what i know even now C2 can be combat medic unless u r pes E or else i don’t advice u to try.
