You are posted to: Police OCT Inspector at home team academy

I'm sure that quite a number of ppl are unsure of what is this posting and so I will try to answer some question I had when i got this posting after my BMT

questions:

1) Is there confinement 3 weeks? if no, we can go back home on the first week?

Ans: There will be no confinement. You are able to book out on every friday if nothing bad happens.

2) What OCT stand for?

Ans: Officer cadet trainee. The lowest rank as you are only a trainee but with highest responsibility and discipline.

3) whats the pay like during training and after the 9 months course is completed?

Ans: Pay will be $700 on the 12th of every month

4) Any SOC?

Ans: We do have SOC, but dont worry la. Its not that imp compared to the army and its easier too.

5) Any smoking area?

Ans: There is no such thing as 'yellow-box' in HTA. Strictly no smoking!

6) Bunk

Ans: It will be two person to a room, Four person to a toilet

7) Items to bring on the first day when you report

Bring your running shoe ( Usually out of stock), hanger and all basic stuff that you need. No need to bring any SAF stuff as you will be given new uniform and stuff on the first day.

You are free to post more questions. I will try to answer them if possible.

Hi,

How to really kena police force after BMT?

Any idea or way to really get in SPF after BMT?

As romanista2001 SG

if you're a Malay, shouldn't be a problem..............if you're a Chinese, start praying to the Gods..............there are very very little Chinese Nsmen in police nowadays..........

Eldon SG

To be posted to Police force after BMT, the only way is posted to POLICE OCT as all commission officer in SAF, SPF & SCDF have to go through BMT first. All police enlistment are mono intake. If you are enlisted into tekong, there are no chance for you to get into police force beside posted to OCT.

There are only 2 intake per year for Police OCT. In April and September every year, only 60 cadets per batch. So you can see the rate to be selected is very slim. You cant have any tatoo, pending offence and you need to own a dip/A' lvl cert.

To sum up : Do your best in BMT, your PC/ peer appraisal will know who are the leader born-to be and who are the wayang ones :D

why is the public outlook on police so negative and why is the pay so low?

i tot police earn more that the army

is it more prestigious to get into OCS army or police oct insp?

thx

CJ~~~HHH SG

hey yo eldon, mind if i add a few more questions?

the pay is 700 when u r an OCT or when u r an fresh graduate as an inspector from PA?

is there some things u may advice an police OCT to look out for when in the training period?

i will gladly appreciate yr answers! btw i am posted to PA as an OCT ... so ya lol, tat explains the curiosity.

Loshaft SG

Sorry Eldon for hijacking your thread. Hey CJ~~~HHH, firstly welcome to Police OCT. Hope to see you around this coming monday haha! Ok 700 is what you will get during your life as an OCT and after you pass out from PA, you will get the NSPI pay which is ard 1k (not including meal allowances, ops pay, sea pay, etc. depending on your postings). Things to look out for during training period are..umm it will still be regimental just like in BMT, but here they pay particular attention on your drills and marching (much more if you're an OCT).

A typical day for a cadet will be, 6am Water Parade (no 5BX! yay!) follow by Flag raising then its either PT/Drills --> Breakfast --> Class --> Lunch --> Class/Misc. stuffs --> PT/Drills --> Dinner and finally admin time till lights out which is at 2230 daily.

As for OCS being more prestigious than OCT, I can't say much as initially i feel the same way too but as of now after mnts into the course, I'll say each of us has our fair share of pride.

puttdebutt SG

hey there loshaft! im also enlisting into police oct this following monday too. you sound very experienced, are you like one of the in charge there? haha hopefully it will be a good experience in OCT.
Just a question though, it states to wear collar t shirt, long pants( no jeans ) and shoes when we enlist - does this mean the typical working class outfit, such as long sleeve collar shirt, black ankle shoes etc?
Just a question since it might suddenly seem too 'formal' for me if that is the outfit ;)

Peace ! Hopefully we will get to meet this following monday!

why is the public outlook on police so negative and why is the pay so low?

Ans: Negative? I guess it's because they commit some offence and so happen that they are caught and charge in court? haha. Try thinking this way. When you are in danger, be it you just been rob or someone confronted you to beat you up. who will you think of first? calling the police? Hope some police to be around? What I'm trying to say is, the presence of police can be felt in Singapore. and SPF have a good reputation here in Singapore

As for the pay, we are serving national service, therefore the pay is quite standard throughout. However, we still have meal allowances. It will be office hour or shift work after passing out. Where else can you find such nice job scope?

the pay is 700 when u r an OCT or when u r an fresh graduate as an inspector from PA?

700 will be for OCT only. fresh graduate will be drawing their monthly salary while undergo training.

is there some things u may advice an police OCT to look out for when in the training period?

Find out when you are in there! There's too much for you to find out.

Actually in my mind,

I was planning to sign on with police before going CMPB for check up...

Meaning after my ITE , i go and join police force and sign a 5 year bond..can?

Eldon SG

puttdebutt >>> Hey. Not really formal la. Just no jean and T-shirt allow. collar shirt and pants with shoe will do.

Shall see you this monday :D

weng007 SG

generally who did better in bmt those who go to ocs or police oct insp

and when we get our rank...its a sargeant or leftenant?

Eldon SG

generally who did better in bmt those who go to ocs or police oct insp

And: I have no answer to that question? It depends on how you see the whole thing? Both side have leadership qualities , strength and weaknesses.

The rank will be Inspector. You can wiki it.

Loshaft SG

Hey puttdebutt! Welcome to the club :) haha Im not the in-charge there, not even close. Im one of the current OCT in HTA now along with Eldon. We will be your so called "Seniors" so dun worry, you and me are at the same level - trainees lol. Anyway for the 1st day, as what Eldon said, you can come in formal if you like but you will likely be sweating if you're wearing long sleeves. I came in polo t-shirt and pants (not jeans) on my 1st day. Just dun come in t-shirt and berms or slippers. At 1st it may be a little hard to adapt to the life as an OCT but once that phase is over, you'll start to be more appreciative about it :)

9V-XXX >>> Im not too sure about that but i think its possible. So meaning in that period of 5 years bond, you will be serving your NS for 2 years and after you ORD, u will be left with 3 years to serve the bond. But before signing on, i think you have to go thru a series of interviews 1st. Im not planning to sign on so dun expect my facts to be accurate :P

Weng007 >>> When you pass out from OCS you will get a 2nd Liutenant rank (1 bar). When you pass out from OCT you will get an Inspector rank (2 diamonds). Both are officers rank.

weng007 SG

thx for the info
