Did the police report mention who was the one that swung that
bottle

if not, and if your fren is very certain about the fella
that swung that bottle in his face. your fren should try to
drop by a police station to request to make a statement about
that fella.
Bring a copy to HR and for them to handle it. Your fren
most likely wont be able to work in that company anymore since the
Manager will most likely make things very difficult.

Then go a lawyer and tell them what happened, and what likely
your fren will want happen. But all these take monies.
Is your fren willing to pay?
