Lets look at the same caliber as how we look at Singapore.

A penisula island. 41.6km tip to tip width.

Small spaces, tight corners and everyone jostling for elbow space.

Small caliber, meant to shoot only if the target is like maybe one arm with a chopper length away. Laughing

I am in USA now and was living last week with a friend at Seattle.

That guy has a handgun at every nook and cranny of his home. Are you somewhat in the same kind of home? Where weapons are a norm?

Anything you find hard to come by, is not hard to come by if you're from the SPF. There is definitely a difference between what you can find and what LE agencies can find. E.g. an authentic H&K MP5

Kitty, I'm not saying it is not possible, that just might be their reason but I have never seen an LE unit (stateside) use a revo for CQB. When you are entering a room, house, bldg, etc, you wanna make sure you have as much ammo as yu can carry because you never know what is around the corner. In Singapore, CQB might mean facing a individual with a parang. In the US, CQB might mean entering a house with a criminal behind a stolen AR15 (that's 30 rounds).

FYI, one of things we do during training is a tactical reload (swap out a new magazine - where possible) before entering the next room, after the first or last has been cleared. We do so becos' we do not know what to expect and don't want any surprises like a slide lock because there was only one round left.

I'm outside DC and I don't have one in every nook and cranny. I have to be concern about my little one. I do carry one and my wife (who's Asian) has 'skills' too. I like to say we have a few 'well placed' firearms for home protection. Have you ever heard the saying that a pistol is only good to buy time to get to a rifle? A Remington 870 pump is our home defense tool.

I work in the industry, so to speak, which means that even during some of my travels to the other states, I do check in my firearm at the airport.

D, PM sent. I know the MP5 is still a hot ticket item in the rest of the world. It just doesn't fly that well stateside. H&K are trying to get rid of their stocks of refurbished units at well below market prices and they are literally about 45 minutes away from where I am. No matter what some of my associates here think about the MP5 (everyone wants a shortie SBR or at least an M4), I think the MP5 is still a very formidable weapon system.

i can only hope that every family is as gun savvy as you do.

over in sg, somehow, its breeds into the little ones that guns are a no no and is not ladylike or something.

i have people aversed to gun carrying then actually knowing whats its about. its frustrating to even to know guys with that sentiments.

and the extremes, they either are obsessed with guns(the image of having carried one) or simply loathing it.

You folks are very welcome. I don't know everything but I try to know as much as I can. Like I said, it's part of my job.

Kitty, I understand where some folks are coming from, especially those that are anti-gun. In Singapore, that is how we are brought up (yes, I am a Singaporean and proud to be one). We had little or no exposure to firearms, other than what we are taught in schools (air rifles, etc) and the military.

Only when I moved here eons ago that I got curios and sought to learn as much as I can. One thing lead to another, it ended becoming my business. It all bores down to not being ignorant about something you have no idea about.

I don't know of any other Singaporean stateside that's in the biz. Wish there we more of us. I wrote a short article about a year ago about how I think that with the proper training, we can run and gun with the very best of 'em. The Filipinos are now dominating the scene. They won first and second at the last Steel Challenge in California.

If I remembered correctly, Thai Police Officers buys and carries their own weapons. So they have choices over what weapon they carries.

Yah, I was wondering why a dept. will issue a variety of firearms for their cops. Saw traffic cops with glocks, berettas the works. But then again, are they subsidised by their dept.? If not...its gonna cost them an arm or leg for it right?

Here's an extra tidbit. I am not sure how true it is.

I was told, that PO in thailand, they catch you littering with your cigarette butt. They summon you and you can pay the fines on the spot to the PO. Think it was 100 baht/

That fine is a standard price, but the fine actually goes into that PO pocket instead of the National Coffers.

Its not corruption. Just likes tips to waiters that does a good job.

Since you are going to be in Phuket, the first week of December they are hosting the Thai IPSC Nationals (first weekend I think). You should show up and make some new contacts.

BTW, do you shoot IPSC in Singapore? If you do, then you can always ask the boys for some contact info too.

IPSC is not the right choice for realistic scenarios type shooting. You want IDPA; it's more realistic in terms of contact distances, use of cover, magazine capacity, etc. The first IDPA event in Singapore was hosted in May and the next one might be in December (not confirmed). I ran the match in May; had a lot of attendees from several units.

I could be wrong but I think the range at CCK rents out pistol and sells ammo for those who want to participate in any of the events. Don't quote me on this though.

Well yes, I agree that IDPA is much much more practical. But.....shooting is way too expensive in Singapore. And I have not shot for what 2 years since my last Road Accident. Its hard to drag around a leg that cannot bend at the knee.

Hmmm.....think its time I check with some shooters from Singapore that may be going up to Phuket for the Thai Competition. Easier to have friendly face there.
