jackie chan quite poor thing right…. last time, he is a sergeant..now also a sergeant…never promote one..haha

qazplm SG

This is because in HK Police

after Sgt will be SI..... no SSGT or even SSSGT.... Mr. Green

huaiwei SG

Anyone saw the movie today? How was it? I dont mind spoilers...(but maybe give a warning before you go too much into detail as a warning to those who do not want to know just yet!). Wink

malcolmloke SG

Yeah...

Have a look at the site

houndy SG

Even uni grad becomes a PC..then promote to SGT..then after that what i heard is 10yrs as SGT then they will be an inspector...

yst SG

Wah!!! Their passing standard for physical not very high (slightly lower than my expectations). Pull up only need 5, achieve 3min 25sec for 800m run. hmm.... Rolling Eyes

huaiwei SG

If only that is the way the SPF functions. Then we wont have so much vertical intergration problems?

malcolmloke SG

Wah... don't think neeed 10 yrs as SGT lah.. you do see some young Inspectors around in HK police... but yeah you are right.. all will join as PC.

yst SG

Really? I thought can join as either PC or Inspector depending on qualifications. Hmm..... think I must go check my eyes liao... Shocked

huaiwei SG

Wah...now thats something new....I too all along tot they only have PC upgraders!

Maybe kana bluffed by too many HK movies. Very Happy

Anyway I notice their entry requirements do not require English. Hmmm...

yst SG

I don't think Jackie Chan (the character he's playing) is a sergeant. There are 3 pips both on his shoulder board each. He is a senior inspector. Not long after the start of the movie, he is addressed as such, i.e. Senior Inspector Chan. Wink

Wah, I didn't know HK police (as portrayed in the movie) uses Glock 19 as standard issue for their plain-clothes staff. See already, I start drooling liao.... Surprised

houndy SG

No need to use such guns in singapore anyway….wait people complain then jialat

qazplm SG

It used to be like that in the past.
As for now, they have Degree holders to be qualified as Inspector too. Just like SPF. Mr. Green

qazplm SG

Dont worry, Glock will be use in matter of time for men on the grounds. Currently, dept like STS(PCG), STAR(SOC), GC etc are trained with and they are using it.

X-men SG

Is it worth watching?

yst SG

Hmm..... Good question... Personally, I feel its better than what I expected initially..... This show he (Jackie) cried alot..... more emotion, slightly less action..... Wink

malcolmloke SG

IC... Think I have been living in the olden days? When policemen still wore shorts? Very Happy

Thanks for the update.

Though I think that many forces around the world still require all to join as PC and slowly work their way up. Although Degree holders are promoted very fast to the senior ranks? Just my guess.

arrggh SG

but they pay really good. My HK friend said that a job in the civil service is always an iron rice bowl, provided you do not get checked by the ICAC. And the pay for an inspector is more than S$5! not forgetting the perks too.

arrggh SG

I mean S$5k, not $5. Embarassed

houndy SG

Their standard of living is high, so paid more. They make about twice as much as us in terms of salary.

huaiwei SG

Well I will be watching it tomorrow (actually today), so I shall give a verdict on that? Very Happy
