i am very curious... how come u are still bothering about the JPO 500 drgree and SPO 800 degree... its a requirement set by our recruitment and perhaps only they can answer u.. Mr. Green

as for JO to SO.... yes... SPF is one of the few organisation that allows that... but of cos pro and cons are explain in the previous post by koxinga.... of cos there are a few exceptional ones that can be promoted to SO in early thirties... and retired as SUPT... or even AC/DAC.....

and is it wasting of time its up to individual.... cos SPO and JPO do have different benifits and other things.... hope my reply is satisfactory.. Mr. Green

ASP is good rank loh
but what u had miss out is the learning of handling of cases as what the lower ranking officer are doing
what those ASP are doing is just plan loh
and about the iron bowl part, now is not so call iron bowl liao loh
your rice bowl can be broken if u really done something wrong loh

that ricebowl might not be as iron as you might think. In the recent Police WorkPlan Seminar, Deputy Commissionor of Police Mr Goh Liang Kwang, hinted at the possibility of retrenching staff from the police.

I do not know what is his intention of annoucing this. Maybe it is a wakeup/warning call to buck up. Perfomance measurements have already been in place since 2001 and now this annoucement. But i do not think it will hit frontline staff

well....frontline officers won't get retrenched lah....maybe planning and office side loh...

if u wanna work ur way up from PO to SO....hard and u must be high flyer + get recognised right from the start else, very the difficult. typical is NPCO -> AO/AOO -> AIO / IO -> Office post in DHQ then u got chance...

must plan ur ROE well also....if u go in with Air Level or Diploma, u stand higher chance also...if u got Diploma, might as well go NTU since now they taking in poly grads...then sign on as a SO...u start from Insp / ASP, u skipped all the slogging from Sgt -> SSgt -> SSSgt -> A/Insp which will take u 5-6 yrs at least.

Yikes, means have to go thru all these steps in order to get promoted from PO to SO? So it seems that entry level SO more viable...

Anyway out of point down here, but anyone knows why is it that the SPF uses a standard "2 pips" only for Inspectors? What abt A/Insp and P/Insps?

I recall in Police Annual 1993 that there was a picture of a "3 pip" officers around...(though the Prison Services still has this insignia up til this day).. What happen to the "1 pip" and "3 pips" in the SPF?

well....if u are NS police they will put u to do staff work, all my friends with partial or total colour blind all do staffwork, those with nightblindness also. for those singing on, they will sieve u out if u have colour deficiency....its for both your and the public's safety.

oh yes.. my friend was posted to NS PC after bmt. we were all blue wif envy, until a few days later, when he came back to join us at OCS, cos he was found to be colour-deficient. from envy we all turned to pity - how he was brought to heaven and then thrown to hell. Wink
