Some are genuine short term memory.
But in normal cases, it just shows that the other party aren't
interested in the information you are providing and this doesn't
reflect well on personal image. 
Whenever I have a new piece of information, the first thing I do
is to write it down on my notepad, then transfer it to my laptop

how do you jot down when you are having a conversation with your
friends or colleagues? you mean you jot down everything conversed
lol, thats impossible, unless you record it down using a tape
recorder or hp recording.
I mean what is the big deal in repeating isnt it. its not like I
am telling the person 10 or 20 times already and that person dun
remember. wonder what on earth these people are thinking of when
they say, I told you already or before. that is a real
conversation killer.
