The Taliban have extended a deadline to 1430 GMT (3:30 p.m. British time) on Tuesday, after which they said they would start killing the hostages if South Korea did not agree to withdraw its 200 troops from Afghanistan and Kabul did not free Taliban prisoners.

South Korea, Taliban continue negotiations for release of hostages

Jul 24, 2007, 8:51 GMT

Seoul/Kabul - The war of nerves in negotiating the release of 23 South Koreans kidnapped in Afghanistan continues Tuesday with 'effective measures' being used, said a government official.

Seoul is working with the US and other countries, though details of the negotiations with the kidnappers were not released.

Among the demands by the Taliban was 100,000 dollars to speak by telephone with the hostages, an Afghan mediator told South Korean televison station KBS.

Father in Heaven,

I pray for the safety of the hostages, calm the fears in them and their families. Fill the terrorists hearts with peace and love, and free them from their resentments and hatred. Father, fill them with your mercy and forgive the terrorists for they know not what they are doing... Touch their hearts, Lord...

In Jesus's name i pray,

Amen.

May Chen Re Zig bestow the seed of compassion to the terrorists, who will eventually put down their guns and work for the benefits of all sentient beings.

May Chen Re Zig alleviate the South Koreans under hostage from all suffering.

I think Mother Teresa counted the cost.... and did not let her personal conviction be turned into a political situation that is holding a country hostage.

... also nobody in his right mind will do something like this to Mother Teresa (who in my opinion, has a much larger clout than these Koreans)

I am not debating on the intentions of these Koreans, just their lack of common sense and planning when they venture into a hostile territory where people do not play by the rules.

... would you do what these Koreans have done? and allow yourself to be paraded on international TV, to be used as a pawn in a political cause? Wink

May the bodhisatva bless these group of people, to be released and return home safely.
In fact, regardless what religion they believe in, may all beings be free from all suffering.

I am really happy to see different people making different sorts of prayers… I would probably never come across prayers like those posted here if not for this thread. I am sure your good intentions will bring blessings to the hostages.

KANDAHAR: A South Korean delegation on Tuesday held direct talks via tribal elders with Taliban militants who are holding 23 Korean nationals, officials and the insurgent group said. Dozens of Taliban militants were killed in clashes with NATO and Afghan forces in various parts of the country.

The delegation led by the South Korean ambassador arrived on Tuesday in the southern province of Ghazni where the hostages are being held, following rebel demands for negotiations ahead of a sunset deadline.

Yes, the South Korean delegation is in Ghazni. Theyve been in talks with the Taliban through the tribal chiefs, said provincial police chief Alishah Ahmadzai, who was himself involved in the talks. A local governor said force would not be used against Taliban.

mother teresa went to Afganistan?

If the Koreans that sacrificed themselves and put themselves in danger to become medical aid volunteers and if people like that, are stupid, then people that sacrificed themselves like Mother Theresa must also also be stupid to you.

Some people from ~EH~ are so illogical, irrational and unable to comprehend simple things, I am so glad this thread is in the Buddhist forum and not ~EH~. Rolling Eyes

who's chen re zig?

hmm report came in, 1 korean was killed so far.

Hi,
Mother Theresea was not stupid because at least where she was working was not a war zone, and was a safe place.
However, i cannot speak the same for the Koreans, they have been termed "stupid" by their own people for making their families worry when they knew that Korea had a caution against travelling to Afghanistan. Now, not only do their families have to suffer from anguish, they have also been subject to anxiety because they do not know when or if their loved ones will be released or killed.
I will not pray for them but i hope the best for them.

AndrewPKYap SG

Are you sure?
