3 person , an Englishman , a chinese and malay met and saw a cup of tea on the table

the englishman said proudly "hey ,that is a cup of tea , it is the name for that!"

The chinese immediately rebutted ,"no , it is called cha in chinese !"

then the malay comes along trying to outdo both of them ,"that is called teh ,u two ,duhz

so they are quarelling away ,and a monk comes by

the monk pick up the cup of tea and said

whether u called it teh , tea or cha ,as long as it quench my thirst, i have it

so the monk drank up the cup of tea

that is my answer to sectarianism

ven chuanxi under ven haitao is not practise tibetan esoteric
he is practice tientai esoteric under chinese mahayana

thought i reply this from a message of bohiruci., so that we can all learn.
regarding the use of the word esoteric. isnt esoteric buddhism = tibetan buddhism? esoteric = mysterious (frm dictionary). so if put esoteric/mysterious in front of mahayana or any sect, it would become vajrayana already. no?
sorry, im not so familiar with esoteric.

btw, from watching many videos of ven haitao, He dont seem to be exactly from tientai. it seems to be from pureland school, but used to practice Earth store method. and i notice He like to learn many method (fa men wu liang shi yuan xue) and love to teach mantras, and encourage ppl to leave home. need to go find the previous teacher to know more. hmm..

however, from our(PL, MCKs) pov we dont really encourage learning too many doors for beginners. unless, one is like San Cai(Sudhana) of Hua Yen Sutra. He went to visit 53 gurus while still remain loyal to the first guru who teach Him nianfo method until the last guru, Bodhisattva Samantabhadra! His mind is still unwavered. Excellent indeed.
Master Yin Guang and MCKs teacher, Li Bin Nan also dont encourage ppl to leave home, though we think leave home is very good, just that we scare if ppl dont really uphold the precept properly, they might end up in hell realms. True leave home is leave the home of afflictions/vexation, leave the home of samsara is what we encourage.

Esoteric is a term ,yes ,as spelt out in the dictionary

The Buddhist academic cant use the word "secret"
because anything secret doesnt sound orthodox

this is just a look at words

Mi Zong (Esoteric Buddhism) is based on the Inner Heart of Buddha

Buddha Sakyamuni have various Dharma-door for various Sentient Beings

Pureland is one of them

the next thing to point out is the we cannot use the term "Vajrayana Buddhism" as the Generic name for Esoteric Schools

Ven Mingjing of Huayen Society can tell you this

The Esoteric School is divided into 3 division .not due to difference
but the history at which the 3 school came to China/Tibet and Japan

There is actually no need to see be "attached" to the term "esoteric"
use

Earth Store Bodhisattva does have a section where he vowed to help sentient beings to the Pureland of Amitabha ,there is really no conflict to which areas.

as the saying goes "All Dharma door leads to Pureland ",so it is the matter of choosing what is suitable for oneself

Remained at True Word (Zhen Yan,Shingon) Sect in Japan
Lineage = Koyasan

3rd Period of Esoteric Buddhism (before Muslim invasion of India )
Nalanda University - Treatise Master Atisha with Padmasambhava
known as Tibetan Buddhism ,also with the general Name Vajrayana Buddhism
due to its emphhasis on practice of Vajra

and till now they are constantly alive to help sentient beings in the path of bodhi

In Mahayana Buddhism
the richness is in its ability to accept all capacities of sentient beings

The practice of Esoteric is one must associate one is a Buddha /Bodhisattva

as the practice goes "What would I do if I am Buddha?"
thus the practice of cleansing one body ,speech and mind entering the Holy World of Buddha and Bodhisattva (Mandala)

May I wish to clarify something
Finding your root teacher is also inside Pureland Buddhism
Sometimes you are suffering in saha world , You need proper guides to prevent your practice from walking round in circles

Ven Haitao is very much following after his Benefactor shifu practice to encourage this

mantra chanting is good indeed

the rebirth mantra is also an mantra
Which can be use to alleviate suffering ,reduce one's calamities in life

i think not for beginners but i bow and respect His teaching. i'm still loyal to MCK's teaching of focusing on one. and that concentration lead to opening of wisdom. Ven Hai tao did explained that He's a monk, He ought to. Cool

ps : i know for 3 yrs, MCK used to follow Zhang Jia Da Shi, who was a disciple of Lama Tsong Khapa and also One of the 4 Guo Shi (guru of the Emperor)!

actually, its most surprisingly that the Earth Store Sutra never mentioned about Amitabha Buddha.
im now trying to figure why. Other Masters did some explaination, that sentient beings of saha world are very stubborn and dont believe easily. And also Earth Store Sutra is only for practicing merit for samsara, leave the 3 evil realms and not for liberation to escape samsara. maybe its one step at a time. first bring them out of hell before telling them of Amitabha per se.
