wuming78 SG i think one of the bugbears for working ppl like us is the lack of time (or the refusal to spend limited free time) to train, esp when each run can last for hours! if you have been doing your training runs at night, won't the hotter weather on the actual day in the day (esp since the marathon ends around 10+ 11) affect performance since you won't be acclimatised?
trueno86 SG What to do? Daytime have to work man. Actual run just keep pouring ice mountain on the head lor...
kops21 SG ur training isn't "ideal" but will do given the circumstances. Nevertheless, you did very well with the training you are having.
kops21 SG by official definition, any distance 50km or more is an ultra marathon. In US, it is typically 50k or 100km or even 100miles. These are popular distances, of course there are some odd distance here and there. Yup, i be going for Ultra. Wanna see how far i can push myself.
kops21 SG To quote from SCSM " There's no such thing as bad weather, just weak minds" I agree that it is our refusal to spend limited free time to train.
kops21 SG If anyone want to run a marathon and finding hard or lacking motivation, we can discuss in Jogging Thread I believe with everybody contributions, we should be able to make it to the finishing line no matter how much difficulties it takes.
k4korny SG hee.. reporting only 10 days after the dust has settled. this is my very first marathon! for those who are scared are thinking of taking part, but are scared to try it, dun worry-> you can walk!! (cos that's what I did.. ) But of course you must also train up to a certain fitness level lah.. at bedok jetty (abt 25km) my knees just gave up on me cos of an old injury. so after that was a bloody long 17km walk back to the padang. wah.. felt like giving up, but luckily i didn't. Cos towards the end, everyone was just walking to the finishing line anyway, and there's nothing paiseh abt it.. (Plus, I wouldn't have got that nice finisher t-shirt if i had gave up ). Finished in 5hr40m. My target next year will be to finish under 5 (that is, if my knee allow me. ).. Kops, good luck for your ultra marathon!
kops21 SG well done korny. nothing is impossible if you set ur mind into it. The finisher T-Shirt though not as stylo as last year, nevertheless it is a very good one, which we earn it. U finished with a very good timing korny, despite ur injury, you should be able to finish below 4:30hrs if the right training and motivation, plus minus the injury. with sufficient training, you will be able to run from start to end. Training harder & regularly for next one. I am not sure about Ultra Marathon, as my knee havent recover yet. Last weekend, i got myself injury(same injure) while doing the Time Trail for MR 25. Luckily still managed to make the cutoff timing. At least the effort didnt go to waste. Today i ran only 2km and stop because the knee start to feel the stress. Let see how....
