Rhonda SG I've been cooking again! Here are photos of the latest dishes! Don't look down on the humble instant noodles! Here, a jazzed up version. Chai Tow Kway! Bought the Ron & Sue's Chai Tow Kway and it tasted horrid straight from the pack, so I decided to roll up my sleeves and add touches here and there and make it a proper and delicious Chai Tow Kway! This next one is a huge huge personal accomplishment and something I'm really really proud of! My 'portfolio' now includes : MEE SIAM!!! A lot of work since I started from scratch! But the results are truly worth it! And, here are my lovely chicken wings that my colleagues love too. And this evening's dinner - Satay Chicken with Kai Lan Bee Hoon! The bee hoon is soooo simple and yet, so tasty! I just kinda decided to grab whatever I could think of, make it simple, and voila! Bee hoon is my new love!
SydneyLibrarian SG wah liao eh, Rhonda, ur food looks soooo delish! Whoever gets u as gf/wife in future will strike jackpot, man!! Actually my chiro is looking for chinese gf. u wan me to intro?
Wanda SG Ya ya, x2. Rhonda, I can see that you'll definitely be very popular at potluck parties. *drools*
Rhonda SG Is he tall? Is he big-sized? Does he love to eat? And erm... is he insured in case of malpractice? Sorry, it's an occupational hazard - nurses do become quite cynical and sharp in time! I kinda like fireman's height and size. When he hugs me, I feel like I'm the pearl inside the oyster... so safe and secure...
Rhonda SG Some of my colleagues always try to get a taste of my food during mealtime in the staff lounge. It's quite pai seh cause sometimes, I don't wanna share because it's my favourite. Some of them pop into the room and say they can smell the food as it's microwaving and it smells so good and pai seh, I have to offer. I've learnt to quickly mess up my food when I'm eating so they won't dare to pinch from me! I think I really need to find a Singaporean / Malaysian man here because only they will appreciate something like Mee Siam / Xing Zhou Mee Fen, etc.
Rhonda SG For breakfast, try the very simple yet tasty Deluxe Tuna with Seeded Mustard Sandwich! You need to throw together : 1 can of Tuna in Seeded Mustard, or if you don't have that, just drain a can of tuna in brine and mix seeded mustard with the Tuna A few button mushrooms A few sliced olives Mayo (optional) Lettuce and/or Tomatoes and/or Cucumber Capers And voila! If you like it spicy, a dollop of Peri Peri sauce / Chilli Sauce will spice things up nicely!
Rhonda SG If the weather gets too hot and mucky, try this naturally sweet cold dessert - Stewed Nashi Pears with Plums! Core nashi pears. Slice Nashi Pears thinly. Throw in a handful of Qing2 Ren2 Mei2 (a type of preserved plums). Bring to the boil, then maintain a slow simmer. Refrigerate, and enjoy! The natural sweetness of the Nashi Pears mean that you don't need to add sugar at all.
Rhonda SG KT's Almost Vegetarian Noodles Done slightly over an hour, just use up whatever you have in the fridge or whatever's fresh from your marketing! Seasoning : Tomato Ketchup, Kecap Manis, Glory Nyonya Sambal, a little Tau Cheo, sugar to taste. Voila! OR, to make a really plain and healthier version, just use Tamari Sauce (a denser type of Japanese soy sauce, slightly different method of brewing from the plain soya sauce) and Fish Sauce. The natural sweetness of the fresh vegetables provide a tasty backdrop to a very simple and delicious dish. Bon appetit!
Rhonda SG Day off today. Almost had a meltdown at work yesterday cause of the incredible work stress and my Team Leader called me into her room to tell me I need a good break. So, on my rest day today, I watched tons of TV, vegetated heaps on my couch that's now become a permanent double bed in the living room and thought of new recipes. And so, I came up with this : KT's Special Seafood Noodles!! I don't have much online time left so I'll just hurry with a quick list of ingredients - Dou Ban Jiang (Chilli Bean Sauce) Eggs Prawns Crab meat Tomato Ketchup Sugar Beansprouts Kai Lan Onions Garlic Fishballs Tau Pok Mushrooms And whatever else you wanna throw in. Too bad I didn't have white fish fillets nor calamari slices otherwise, the dish will be superb! If you like mussels, you can throw that in too! This turned out to be a cross between dry mee siam with a hint of chilli crab sauce. Reeeeely nice!! Quick too! Done within an hour! Not bad! I may soon print my very own cookbook!!
jetta SG Thanks for the recipes, Rhonda. You've inspired me to make bee hoon for dinner tonight. Strangely though, the kids and hubster don't like bee hoon. Who cares though. They'll have to eat it tonight.
jetta SG Guess what? Hubster liked it! Son liked it too. I also whipped up some keropok and crushed it all over son's portion. As for the daughter, she'll be home soon and I'm guessing she'll just push it around her plate. She is my supertaster.
