Oh boy, here we go again.
Okay, according to some immigration statistics I managed to find in
a few minutes, the mean age of Singaporean immigrants to Australia
has risen from 27 years in 1976 to 36 years in 2001 (source:
http://immigration.museum.vic.gov.au). Note that this number
includes univeristy students typically aged between 17 and
25.
Given that the immigration application system here disadvantages
applicants over the age of 30, the mean rising up to 36 years of
age shows a strong trend of older Singaporeans moving to Australia
despite the conditions of immigration, and with so many young
university students here, all things being equal, there's got to be
an equal number of Singaporean immigrants who are between the ages
of 47 and 55, if not older.
The numbers show that there's no case to support older
Singaporeans' unwillingness to move to Australia, so all this
conjecture about it being sooooo difficult for older Singaoporeans
to move is simply conjecture because the evidence speaks to the
contrary.
