i watched the movie on xmas eve, not a good movie to watch but ok. Confused

i wonder how come the mother sent her children to foreign land to avoid war but she still stay there?

The score is beautiful Smile
I especially love the tracks sung by Lisbeth Scott, in particular, the song accompanying the scene where the children leave London. It's sad and hopeful at the same time. Her songs really bring out the heart & soul of the story.
