Rhonda SG I remember that when I auditioned for a play in JC, I came across this word, 'h'or d'oeuvres' and didn't know how in the world you were supposed to pronounce it but I had to say my lines, so I went 'hor dee-vow-wers'. Soooo cuz those in the know were guffawing away. I learnt then, and have never forgotten since, it's supposed to be pronounced 'or the-ff'.
Estee SG how about shop names?? Carrefour shd be pronounced as "Car-fool" right? i heard people going round pronouncing it as "Carry-four"
Rhonda SG It's a French word again. 'Our' is supposed to be pronounced as 'oo-er'. So, Carrefour should be 'Car-foo-er'. If you're the only one pronouncing it right though, everyone else would think you're wrong and laugh at you.
the Bear SG not pronunciation... but what drives me up the wall is spelling sometimes... z is NOT a substitute for s sorry dude..
choco B SG Delifrance has this helpful list of french word pronounciations printed on their paper lining for trays. Croissant = cwah zon I read the list while I eat Then again how do you properly pronounce Delifrance? Deli - france or the french way, which I'm guessing is different?
the Bear SG france = fwwannnczz? or is it "ribbit ribbit" sorry... can't help but poke fun at them frogs
Camellias4me SG Francais? Louis Vuitton : Loo-wis Vee-taun / Lu-wee vWee-Tong? We've strayed off topic.. it says Words.
JLennon SG can't help it dude. Most Winword programs adopt US English by default so it auto corrects 'finalise' to 'finalize' and 'instalment' to 'installments'. can't stand US English... yes, I am biased.
choco B SG ... don't mock me leeh. T___T cwah as in kwah! I think they wrote it as "cwah" I can't stand the auto-correct US English in MS Word either. Sometimes I change it to UK English but it turns back to US by default.
