starblue SG omg... that tuition gal is killing me. either she is really not very bright, or she just cant be bothered. man, who in the world memorizes han yu pin yin for words without knowing how it works?
the Bear SG i've seen people memorise stuff with absolutely no understanding of anything.. enough to regurgitate it in the exams and get high marks... however, they don't know what the heck is going on... so.. there.. there are those out there.. results are everything..
hisoka SG actually i don't kknow how han yu pin ying works and i suck at it. but that hasn't exactly stopped me from doing pretty well in chinese and reading chinese novels, etc
rainee SG sigh...the woes of having students who dun wan to make efforts look at my thread in AA...that guy disappeared again today. Think I can give up on him liaoz... http://www.sgforums.com/?action=thread_display&thread_id=234530 so i understand wat u r going thru, starblue mei...
the Bear SG you can drag a horse to water, but you cannot make the horse drink.. i've always told the people at work, there is only so much we can do.. after that, the hell with it.. it's their lives.. and in my line of work, they get their asses arrested..
fudgester SG Ah yes... reminds me of my former tuition student.... I did all I could to teach that kid, but he wouldn't reciprocate. He seemed to take everything as a joke and couldn't even be bothered to do half the assignments I made him do. Virtually every session was a shouting match with me trying to get him to take his work seriously. Heck, he could still watch cartoons the night before his exams and totally forget half the things that he was supposed to know. When I realised that his poor grammar was due to his penchance for Japanese manga and nothing else, I told him to visit the library more often. When he claimed to have insufficient time to do so, I actually went down to Bras Basah Complex to buy good second-hand novels for him. I never charged his mom for the books. I made him read one novel per month, with a book review to be handed in at the end of the month. When I took his extremely-substandard reviews to task, he complained that the books I bought him were too difficult to read and could not be finished in one month. Sheesh man... are Roald Dahl and The Three Investigators books too difficult for a 13-year old? His eyes bulged when I told him that I read them in primary school. In the end, I quit in a huff after his final exams. His mother offered to draw me back by upping my pay, but I declined. My mental health is more important than money.
starblue SG er... means if i watch a show or listen to music, it will keep stopping and starting. even the cursor, or my typing.
the Bear SG hmm.. i think it's the HDD.. try defragging it? best as the little ant coz she's the one who knows.. my old notebook started to have problems like that too.. it was the HDD that failed..
the Bear SG HDD = hard disk drive... as for defragging, i forgot.. i don't have to do that now since i'm using an iMac maybe it's there in the systems or something like that...
