The ISP’s Terms & Conditions clearly states they are to divulge the details of the offended IPs if required by the law. So, NO ISP is considered safe.

I personally think that if you like a series so much, you should pay for it after downloading a few samples to watch it.

Don't like ODEX's quality? Do a Mass Order with friends/club direct from Japan.

It's only fair lah.

I've made a few short films before, and I wouldn't like to be ripped off in entirety. Having said that, if people were to download and sample them, I'll be happy that there is interest in them.

accordingly to tamago's post of the article from ST, they have won the rights for Starhub to disclose the identity of 1,000 users suspected of downloading anime. if each person pays $3000 that would means $3 million dollars into their pockets. Rolling Eyes

if they manages to get Pac Net to disclose another 1,000 users that would means another $3 million for them.

Perhaps if they are forced to close or revamp their relationship models with their fanbase and beyond, it will be a lesson painfully learnt about failed business models and all that.. Laughing

Going after downloaders will not increase sales, but it will definitely turn off other otakus. The psychological profile of the otaku community is not like any other.

Traditional business/RIAA-sue-till-pants drop models do not work here.

They have to
1) BayTSP (which, if you check around, is very well known for charging pretty high rates. Factor in the USD->SGD conversion)
2) Law firm. I still won't name it, but they deal with Japan. So they would charge Japanese rates too. There's a reason why japanese companies pay well - they spend very well too.
3) Court orders.
4) ISP charges. The ISPs are profiteering from this. They are charging pretty high amounts to release the data, since this is their chance to earn.
5) Odex having to hire extra manpower to go through the documentation, match, and then send them out.

3k i believe are really legal fees.

The best we can do now is to just STFU and see what odex does next.
Hopefully they would look more into what the anime fans are trying to appeal.
And try to condone with our what we want gradually.
I know they have not been doing this for past few years. But at then the response and harted towards them were not so high yet.

Its not a matter of being a coward or anything.
Its the matter of whats the optimal thing to do now.
Even if someone really manage to counter sue odex back and win the case. (very unlikely)
It proves nothing except that there are loopholes in how Odex is handling this matter.
Yes, glory and hounour might shine on whoever that wins the case. And people from the internet will look upon him as a hero.
But all in all. It will not help the anime community. Downloading will afterall still be illegal.
The government might even start to get paranoid about this online piracy case. And tighten up on online piracy laws.
I seriously dont think they will start to think
"oh how sad, a 9year old boy has been sued. Lets make the copyright law more lenient."

And i am sure everyone knows that odex has quality issues.
But digging it up over and over again does not help.
Exposing odex director does not help.
Gather fund and counter sueing odex does not help.

The thing we should do now is to save the anime community.
And not fight back against odex.
I hope you guys will understand this.

I'm sure those who are ignorant of their point of view, like me here, would like to know more about them. Otherwise, they would always be seen as being secretive and have something to hide rather than facing a chicken and egg situation which I have inferred so far from reading your blog posts.
