Up for a litmus test?
A standard media enquiry to the corporate communications office of
some of the major Japanese studios will suffice.
The issue here is that many people, especially non-anime fans are
observing this case very closely.
Secondly, those of us who are lobbying for a Data Protection Act
and a FOIA(Freedom of Information Act) are watching this very
keenly. This will have an impact on the balance struck between
corporate interests and citizen's rights in this new media
landscape.
Thirdly, like it or not, the wheels are turning. Corporations have
to realise that there is a certain limit they may not cross,
especially dealing with industries that have a cross-border
fanbase. There will be attrition.
If you ask around or observe related firms, there have been small
but gradually increasing impact on their profit margins. Not only
that, public perception and goodwill forms a huge aspect of these
companies brand management..
Time will tell, but it won't take too long to see the
impact..
