LatecomerX SG Well, unless you're thinking of using the same rig for more than 5 years, overclocking would give you that "fast" while being able to last through for the next 2 - 3 years which by then you would have gotten yourself another comp. 4 Ghz...you will need to spend quite some time and a good cooling system for it to run stable at that speed. But a 3.0 OC from 2.4 should be as easy as cake especially if you're using a good motherboard.
kenn3th SG AMD's Quad Core Is still struggling against their intel counterparts. Thus, Intel's Quad cores are still better processing wise.
MyPillowTalks SG actually i dunnoe the 8800 can do wad.....im now on geforce 4 mx 440 which is many years ago, can the 8800 handle flight simulator? ship simulator? hmm......the person say widescreen play game veri shiok, i now onli 17" CRT monitor lea...... so the Q6600 quadcore is enough to handle photoshop, dreamweaver, sony vegas at one go? my amd 2ghz almost died when i did that
kenn3th SG Originally posted by MyPillowTalks: I went to simlim and spent an hour with the owner MY new computer would have something like the following, haven buy yet, just discussed: Intel Quadcore Q6600- $411 X38 motherboard(gigabyte i tink)- $ 482 4gb KIT kingston RAM- $ 299 Gigabyte 8800GTS- $545 320gb SATA2 HD- $121 1000W PSU- 390 Antex 900 casing- $ 190 1 DVD ROM and 1 DVD writer- $79 19" LCD- $349 TOTAL: $2860 haven pruss OS wad u all think? For this computer's PSU, really Need 1000W or not? $190 for a casing is quite ex. You can cut down on that. And do you need a 19" LCD? 19 inch lcd is what brand and how many fps and response time? 1000w PSU too much alr. and too ex $390. 2gb is sufficient for Xp 32bit. I suggest you go 2gb then wait for price to drop further before adding another 2. Os hor, singpost selling windows vista business for $145. Or you can get from SLS OEM editions lor. $100++ Actually it's up to you. xp for gaming and video, image editing. Or if you want vista, go ONLY for homebasic. Performance wise, xp pro and basic are about the same. Or you could go for OEM xp Media center edition. Then buy Tv in and out ports to connect to your White box Sweet.
kenn3th SG Your amd is dual core right amd cannot compare to intel la. Performance wise. 8800 can handle flight simulator and ship simulator with no prob. dont worry.
MyPillowTalks SG that gaming rig of mine, i may not overclock it, but if i clock my Q6600 to 3ghz, do i need any special cooling stuffs? If i get the x38 motherboard, can i overclock it w/o any prob? i dun need too fast, somehow i feel contented when i have a 3ghz processor, compared to 2.4 Heard that the Q6600 is extremly overclockerable
MyPillowTalks SG U all think that the price for the various parts are reasonable? or i kena chopped? or u think can still go lower?
hiphop2009 SG ya la, but, u need so much mehh???? i personally think 500w is gd enough. haha. personal opinion. u can use the money to get other things.
MyPillowTalks SG i dunno about the watts lea....i dunno 500 can push or not.......later it too 'chi li' veri hot
LatecomerX SG To 3 Ghz, you just need to make sure your casing is well-ventilated, or get quality fans for the casing and the CPU to be safe. Run a stress test like Orthos for an hour or so and check that the temperature doesn't exceed 65 degree Celsius, and there you go - a stable OC. Gigabyte's X38 is quite a good choice, though you can get a similar OC performance with the $100-cheaper P35 version. Iirc, the only difference between these two is that the PCIe slots are of version 2.0 (something like USB 2.0 vs USB 1.1) in the X38's, but some suggest that current graphic cards may not even be able to saturate the memory bandwidth of the older PCIe slots. I can't remember much, but I found those articles through a Google search like "P35 vs X38". You may want to try that as well.
LatecomerX SG By the way, don't just look at the numbers. The manufacturer of the PSU is a much more important factor. Take note of the power effiency and ratings as well. (Although it's amazing that an iCute 480W is able to support a 3.2 Ghz OC-ed E6550 + 8800GT on my friend's box.)
LatecomerX SG QX6850 going for $1699 leh. Mai siao siao hor. Most, if not all, buyers of the Extreme series CPUs are overclockers. You buy one for what.
MyPillowTalks SG The guy told me that the casing he would sell to me is the antec 900 i tink, i may even get a watercool, but first of all i need to see how to overclock the thing to 3ghz, i onli noe it is in BIOS, and need to set the jumper thingy, but i dunno how to do it properly.... hmm.....i tink i will stick with the X38, i will google the thing later....
MyPillowTalks SG hmmm......i will check out the Manufacture of the PSU, but the box seems quite nice lea....
MyPillowTalks SG then i tink i stick with 6600, cos i dun wan to overclock actually, so get a already high runnning one btw, u think the price that i posted are reasonable? is it too expensive?
hiphop2009 SG ok la. i think is reasonable but ur 19 inch LCD could be a little cheaper. and ur 1000w PSU
LatecomerX SG The price for each part is reasonable. The issue is whether that uncle is shoving down components that are more than necessary for your needs. If you had told him you're not OC-ing before he recommended you that 1000W PSU, you can go back and flash him your middle finger before walking into another store.
LatecomerX SG Need to set jumper one to OC one meh? I only know when your OC screw up, you just need to do something to the CMOS jumper to reset the BIOS. I just did my first OC recently and all I had to do is to change the necessary settings in the BIOS and do a stress test to ensure stability under full load.
bo liao SG think amd is not dual core.or hv to ask pillow..is old tech used for bout few years liao.we r poor only hv another sony core 2 dour lousy laptop, also use till fed up,so slow, so pillow wan to get quad core.
