ULTRA PORTABLE handheld PCs

twinkleprops SG

GOOD? or is there a thread already?

Deino SG

i'd prefer a 13inch notebook compared to a UMPC......

Many 13 inch notebooks now lasts upto 13 hours of battery life

but in terms of porformance i'd prefer a 15.4 inch notebook which has hd screen and powerful processors what not....

twinkleprops SG

what's the specifics of a better processor. im a tech noob. pardon me Razz

smartboy4 SG

what's so good about these.

the smaller it is, you may think easier to carry, harder to use harder to see..

the bigger it is, cannot carry only can put at home, sibei shiok to use and see Twisted Evil

twinkleprops SG

bingo. its the portability that's drawing me

if its homeusage, i rather get a big big LCD monitor and an upmarket CPU, no to notebooks

Deino SG

if you want for hardcore gaming you need a 2.2 ghz dual core processor at the least.....with an ati or geforece 8+++ with around 256mbram for the video and 2gigram for pc....the battery normally for these kinda specs can last from 2-2.5hours only
these kinda specs you can only get from at least a 15.4 inch notebook

if you wan just for leisure and work

1.2ghz dual core processor and 1gig ram enough.....normally these kinda spces the battery can last from 7 to 12 hours....its more portable with around 2kilos and only 13-11 inches

also to add....the 13 inch notebook can have less hard disk space also......for 15 inch and above you can get more than 200gigs.....
for 13 should be 160 and/or even more less.....but you could always use an external drive.......

if you like to shake your laptop like a c0cktail shaker there is always an option of flash memory instead of harddisk drives.....but bear in mind that flash memory for now is only upto 48gigs...the only advantage is you dun need to worry about spoiling your hard disk

Deino SG

the smaller one should appeal more to women coz its small enough for them to keep inside their handbags

twinkleprops SG

i dont need a high end one. just something that isnt too pricey, lightweight, portable, small ( not small till i have to winch my eyes). just using it for lightweight stuff like surfing the net, presentations but need a big big memory space to store my pics, songs etc

any recommendations?

Deino SG

wots your budget around?

twinkleprops SG

$1000 odd.

dont mind second hand if anyone has any for sale. but must be reliable la Razz

Deino SG

1000 quite hard.......sim lim maybe have that kinda price but i hate sim lim....

you'll need from 1.6k-2k to get a portable notebook....try going around courts...over there got alot for you to see

BabyRex SG

UMPC may not be suitable for you. (Not enough juice for presentations and storage space for you multimedia entertainment)

A 12/13" ultra portable notebook maybe more suitable. But the price will be steeper.
For cheaper ones, you can look at NEC or MSI.

If you are still interested in the 7/8" UMPC, you can look at the Kohjinsha brand. its should be around your budget. Forget about Asus eeePC. the currently available model has only 4GB flash storage space and half already used by the OS.

Rockhound SG

UMPC cant go fast…buy userelf a 12” notebook….UMPC more for educational purposes…and ultramobile businessmen…

Rockhound SG

can get a kohjinsha for 1000-1100....honestly....its a waste of money...get ureself a laptop..umpcs arent powerful

Deino SG

thats wot i told em'

Rockhound SG

evaluate b4 uh on the use of UMPC...i'd rather anyone by a 12" laptop instead of a umpc......

its expandability is crap....only for educational purposes and for people who are extremely mobile...and i really mean extremely mobile...

UMPC is a fad that companies are exploiting non-knowing users....

please refrain ureself from wasting ure 1k..whoever u are...

Deino SG

????

i'm not the one buying....besides, i did recommend her on laptops instead

twinkleprops SG

very confusing sia. so what's the final concluded recommeneded brand? UMCA?

im thinking of getting an external harddrive to make up for the deficient one

Rockhound SG

lol...i noe i noe...just that people being interested in UMPC makes me very disturbed....

cos they are overhyped..

my home laptop is a macbook and my mobile one is my Thinkpad X60...........

both powerful

Deino SG

oooooo...i tot you confused sia.......

yes...i dun like umpcs also.....i'd rather get a 13 inch notebook than a UMPC.....

by the way the thinkpad you use still same design ah?
IBM never change wan ah......
