to explain further,

current sata(serial ata) bus support up to 150mBps. however, right now, no sata disk could actually send this fast.. cos now existing sata disk speed can spin 60mBps.

IDE bus runs at approx +/- 130mBps. now existing IDE max disk speed can go to 50+mBps. IDE can go parallel... so if u use 2 IDE disk which can add up to 110+mBps if both drives sends data through the bus.

If Mac has the same number of users as MS most would have chosen a Mac. If PATA has the same throughput as SATA in real world applications, why is SATA widely accepted in desktop and RAID? Read more pros about the whole SATA concept here and all over the web.

Also if you have checked prices for the same capacity of SATA and PATA hard disks, SATA hard disks may only cost as low as a few dollars more over a PATA per unit.
