vs
Manchester Utd v
Wigan
Manchester United may use Ryan Giggs or Anderson in central
midfield with Owen Hargreaves and Michael Carrick both ruled out
through injury. Wes Brown is a doubt with a knee injury and keeper
Edwin van der Sar is also still out so Tomasz Kuczszak
continues.
Wigan could be without striker Antoine Sibierski with a hamstring
strain. Denny Landzaat is available again after recovering from a
fractured eye socket, while winger Antonio Valencia is ready to
return from a knee injury.
KEY PLAYER NOTES
MANCHESTER UNITED
RONALDO has scored four goals in his last three league and League
Cup appearances against Wigan. Louis SAHA and RONALDO are the only
Manchester United players to have scored more than a single goal
(two each).
SAHA is United's top Premier League marksman, with two goals. Ryan
GIGGS is a double short of 100 career League goals.
Patrice EVRA, Rio FERDINAND, Paul SCHOLES and Nemanja VIDIC have
been on the field for every minute of every one of Manchester
United's Premier League matches this season. Edwin VAN DER SAR
leads the race for the Barclays Golden Glove, with Liverpool's Jose
REINA. Both have kept five clean sheets.
WIGAN ATHLETIC
Antoine SIBIERSKI is Wigan's leading scorer with three Premier
League goals. Only Titus BRAMBLE, Chris KIRKLAND and Mario MELCHOIT
have been on the field for every minute of every one of Wigan's
Premier League matches this season.
HEAD TO HEAD
Cristiano Ronaldo emerged from the bench to spark a second-half
triumph in this corresponding fixture on Boxing Day last year. The
3-1 victory sent Manchester United four points clear at the top of
the Premier League table.
