Win delights young hero Lee
Predictably for an 18-year-old fresh from scoring an extra-time
winner on his first-team debut, Kieran Lee was jubilant after
Wednesday night's victory at Crewe.
The versatile youngster sealed a dramatic win for Sir Alex
Ferguson's side by slotting home in the 118th minute at Gresty
Road, as the cup holders edged into the fourth round.
"I'm delighted with the win," he told MUTV. "We might not have
deserved it really because we didn't play very well but I'm pleased
to score and the win was the most important thing.
"I just wanted to make sure I got a shot off, and luckily it went
in. It was buzzing really!"
Lee, one of five Reserves to make their senior bow against Alex,
admitted that he and his young cohorts were elated to get a taster
of first-team action.
"All the youngsters have been delighted to get the chance to be
involved," he said. "I think all the Reserve players have looked at
the game and hoped for their chance, and I was one of them."
Next up for United is a trip to Southend in the fourth round, and
Lee is hopeful that he and his burgeoning colleagues will be called
upon once more.
"We'll all be hoping for another chance," he admitted. "Down at
Southend it's a long trip but everyone will be looking forward to
it."
