GOOD news for football fans in Singapore: There will be
16 community clubs (CCs) screening World Cup matches for
free.
But it is up to them to decide how many of the 64 matches they
want to screen. And with games set to kick off at 7.30pm, 10pm and
2.30am (Singapore time), they will also have to decide how they
want to organise the screenings.
One of the biggest venues will be Choa Chu Kang CC, which will
screen the matches on LCD televisions for 1,000 fans inside the
centre's sheltered basketball courts. The CC has yet to confirm if
food and drinks will be served during the screenings.
In contrast, Chong Pang CC's efforts will be on a smaller scale.
It will host the event inside a seminar room catered for 50
people.
This effort to bring next month's extravaganza from South Africa
to the heartland was revealed in a joint announcement yesterday.
The organisers behind the move are the Community Development
Councils (CDC), People's Association, CCs, SingTel, StarHub and
gaming operator Singapore Pools.
The CCs will absorb the costs of using the clubs' premises,
which could otherwise have been rented out for recreational use, as
well as the utility charges incurred.
