Its not wise to install a turbocharger into your engine. There
are alot of factors to consider.
- Brakes: as mentioned, you might need a better brake to deal with
the additional power you get through the turbo.
- Engine construction: The current engines you have might not be
able to take the additional power. Basically this is what a turbo
does. First we shall have 2 sides, the exhaust and the compression
side.
1.) The exhaust gas from the engine powers the impeller from
exhaust side.
2.) The impeller, connected using a shaft spins another impeller on
the compression side. Note that the exhaust and compression side
are sealed tight to prevent the exhaust gas from mixing with the
air intake.
3.) The impeller from the compression side gets the spinning power
from the exhaust side impeller and thus able to force more air into
the engine's combustion chamber. To cope with the additional air
intake, your engine will tend to pump more fuel into the combustion
chamber so that the air fuel ratio is proportional. So thats how
you get your extra power.
Thus if you install a turbo, the air intake and exhaust valves and
many other components will be subjected to additional pressure and
forces compared to what it is designed for. So it will basically
shorten your engine's lifespan.
Just 2 cents of my knowledge. Correct me if I am wrong.
