I think there will be a problem if weekend cars are allowed to
use the roads for the whole of Saturday instead of 3 pm onwards.
This will make more people buy weekend cars compared to normal cars
as it is seen to be more viable now.
Imagine the next 10,000 convert to weekend car. That will mean a
sacrifice of taxes amounting to S$170,000,000 (i.e. S$17,000 per
car x 10,000). This can pay 77 ministers at S$2.2mil per minister
per annum.
So maybe the weekend car cannot be made more viable as losses in
tax revenue will be significant.
