May I know how you are going to petition the authorities on this issue? If you are really sincere about petitioning, you should gather everyone's particulars including their OPC registration number and signature instead of starting a thread here and getting flamed by normal plate ppl who don't have a clue to our suffering. With an overwhelming strength of OPC owners who support you, they will surely look into the matter. I personally am an OPC owner and strongly feel that 3pm is unreasonable. Most ppl who work on sat also end at 12 or 1pm and the govt is advocating a 5 day work week. 3pm is more than half the day gone. what is a weekend car when you can't drive on a weekend? "Duh!"

guess threadstarter is gone..nvr see him/her reply to a single post..anyway...we can start a petition on our own by gathering all the names/particulars of OPC owners and send to LTA...need someone in this expertise to draft...

i tried sending few times recently to ST forum regarding our suffering..however...donno is it LTA's propaganda or such..ST refuse to publish...sighs..

Maybe its because this topic is deemed unoriginal by ST coz I have seen it being published in Straits Times a couple of times already. If they publish again and again, readers will get bored and they also have many others things to choose from. I personally also did not see LTA replying.

One thing about the OPC scheme is it forces people to think whether they really need to use the car or not. If you think about it, if you own a normal car and you want to go to some place nearby within walking distance, you would have no qualms jumping into your car and driving there coz your mindset is you already paid for it. This means additional congestion and pollution on the roads.

The OPC scheme in a way brings down the number of unnecessary cars on the road and at the same time gives more people the chance to own a car. It forces people to really think whether they need to use the car because paying money per day to use a car has a much more deterrent effect then juz petrol cost. That is why I'm waiting the day when they implement the "pay as you drive" scheme which is a lot fairer. Currently the scenario could be that an OPC car owner pay $20/day for a short trip and a normal car owner pay just $8.20/day ($17000 + $8000 (Road tax rebate over 10 yrs) / ((365days - No. of Sundays + Public holidays) X 10 years) to drive the entire day and contributing many times over the congestion and pollution.

In my opinion, the price discrepancy between OPC and a normal plate is still too big, so much so that people are still shunning OPC cars and would rather have a normal car to park in the car park most of the time. This price difference should be pulled closer. It then becomes a pioneer version of the "pay as you drive" scheme. More people will choose to use an OPC car and there will be more car owners to contribute taxes to the govt as the upfront cost is cheaper but the numbers don't translate into higher congestion and pollution.

for weekdays; lets say if you knock off at 5pm-6pm, and you get to drive your OPC car at 7pm, you find its fair enough. for weekends; if you knock off at 1pm and you can start driving your OPC car at 3pm, you find it unreasonable? isn't it the same, as in 2hours difference?

OPC car owners have already saved 17k, terms and conditions are already made known to you when you get an OPC car. if you find the terms and conditions unreasonable, why did you buy an OPC car in the first place? and then wanted to start petitioning on this..

if the petition is sucessfully. those normal car owners gonna start another petition; why are we paying 17k more..

Y don u try waking up at 7am and 9am..2 hrs different..isit the same? finished work at 1pm…then u gotta wait in office for 2 hrs to drive the car home? get a life dude..

get a life? thanks, mine is great. i know the pros and cons of driving an OPC car, so i choose to drive a normal one as i know this OPC scheme doesnt suit me. choose to save 17k and wanna sleep 2 hours more? find it unfair to wait till 3pm on sats? you know that before getting an OPC car, thats your life dude..

If I sign a contract to wake up at 7am for 17k then I will, it doesnt matter anything else. If you dont want to wait for 2 hours in ye office you can 1. pay $20 2. change to a normal car.

If you dont work on sat how?? ask gov let you use the car for both sat and sun??

If the OPC scheme not suitable for you then dont buy, not buy liao, save the 17k liao then ask for more. LTA never force you to buy OPC, stop saying its not fair, you have the choice and you choose it!

guys....YES..indeed rules r made known to u before u purchase the weekend car....

you have no choice but to abide by the rules first cos u can't wait for rules to change b4 u buy OPC..cos u donno if they will ever change the rules..

HOWEVER...its every OPC's owners' dream to shorten the period on Sats...tats y we r asking for a petition....

If going by u guys of "u should know b4 u commit" thingy...then there shouldnt be any whining of GST increases, fare hikes etc since u choose to live in Singapore?

Things r made known to us before hand..yes..but then..we can attempt to make it better...

I agree OPC owners know wat they in for, so shouldn't complain too much...

But who on earth doesn't want more benefits? If can appeal and try your luck, why not.

When u out of job and can't find job, u'd willingly take a $1.6k job that tell u no bonus and pay increment $80 a year, hrs 8am-6pm, work Sats. But after working there for some time, sure sian rite? Won't u try to appeal for more bonus or pay? Or because the rule say something and u accept, means its for life? A bit kok...

Now I know why sgrean all like sheep... govt set some rule = bible liao. Cannot appeal? cannot try to gain more out of it?

If govt abolish COE now, and next generation of car owners buy car for $25k, but ERP become $20 at all gantries, will you current car owners smile at home thinking "Its ok, we knew what we are in for when we buy car"? Or try to appeal that its unfair to you because you paid COE and now oso have to pay super ex ERP while new owners have lower upfront costs but only usage costs?

Don't only think in your own shoes sometimes.

Cars are ridiculously expensive here in the first place; but I guess land here is limited. Anyway, I don't think ERP is helping much to lessen traffic. Maybe the new cut in COE will help somewhat, although most prob prices will go back to the old range of maybe $20 odd k. Still many people who can afford cars.

Regarding OPC, well, if you own one, of course you'd try to max out whatever you can. If you don't, of course you'll be unhappy that OPC owners are getting 'unfair' advantages.

As above poster said, it's all about which shoes you are wearing. Fair argument from both sides, IMHO. Maybe that extra 2 hrs on sat can really encourage more family planning and stuff! Laughing

As mentioned earlier, if u are willing to top up the monetary difference to change the driving hours, by all means send in the petition.

Don't expect a free lunch all the time, if u get my drift.

LTA will most likely to grant your wish by making OPC less attractive and your coupon more expensive. Like what we are all trying to say, this is all about dollar and cents and you aint going to get any free lunch from such petition,.
