I think in the early 80s, fighting kite season was still alive.
The boys would make their own glass strings and used it to fly
their fighting kites. They would try to cut each other glass
strings while flying their fighting kites in the air. And when one
of the player’s glass strings got cut and his fighting kite got
loose in the air, the boys and sometimes the girls watching the
kite fighting below would wait for one of the kite to break loose
and they would chase the loose kite with sticks or bamboos to catch
the loose kite. Whomever got hold of that loose kite first, it
would belong to him or her. The fun part was chasing after those
loose kites and also using glass strings to fly your kite in the
air and fought the other players kite like a pilot in the dogfight
in the air. This childhood kite game was very popular in the 60s,
70s and until early 80s…then it faded away.
